Has anyone had success fully healing diastasis recti post partum? I’m 34 weeks pregnant with my second and just had a pelvic floor physio appointment where I found out that I have a large gap. My physio said at this point we will just need to manage so it doesn’t get larger and then can treat post partum. I didn’t have any issues with my first and my stomach went back to normal post partum. I’m feeling down at myself that I didn’t realize until now and do anything to treat it sooner and worried about how it will recover post partum.
Would you be comfortable taking an overnight train (shared sleeping compartment) alone with your 7 year old daughter? I was planning to do it but my parents and to a lesser degree my husband are all horrified by the idea. To me it doesn’t really seem that different than sleeping next to strangers on a plane. I guess on the plane there are flight attendants supervising but it’s not like they’re watching every passenger all the time.
A commenter on the main board said her kids’ school doesn’t teach reading until first grade and they give three recesses a day (in response to a comment about the trend toward earlier academics and less physical movement in school). That is shocking to me, in a good way.
My kids have been in three public school systems in the Northeast (NY and CT) and all have begun sight words and early readers in Kindergarten. While kids aren’t expected to be proficient until first grade, it was definitely a focus in the second half of K. Similarly, recess has been less than 30 min everywhere. Our current school does try to give extra recess throughout the week, but it’s at the teacher’s discretion.
How about you?
My first grader is getting in trouble for excessive chattiness. She’s often not getting her assignments done, despite being entirely capable, and/or the last one to finish. It’s either/or 99% of the time – unfinished work or last done. We just had a conference with the teacher. DD is a level ahead of wherever grade level is for math (it’s leveled something like 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D – 1D the goal by end of first and she’s at 1D currently), and apparently reading on a “2B” level, which is target grade level for the first 60 days of 2nd grade, as it was explained to us. So, she’s ahead of grade level but she’s not like Einstein… is this possibly boredom? She doesn’t seem so very far ahead that it’s obviously boredom but IDK. I asked her teacher, who is extremely experienced and generally lovely, and she said that a lot of the assignments are open ended so she could easily just add more detail in writing, or do another math game or whatever. At home, once I finally get her to focus, she cranks through her weekly homework packet in like 20 minutes the first night.
DH has ADHD while no one in my family had it growing up. So, I’m very new to understanding how it presents in kids but also hyperaware that it could present at some point. Teacher said that she’s still young, turning 7 in late April, so it could just be age and would not yet recommend a disability screening. We do see focus issues at home – asking her to put on her sock to getting it on her foot comes with no less than 10 reminders, sometimes a raised voice and generally her being aloof. But, like… the girl is capable of putting socks on.
I was such a Type A do-gooder, this is new territory. Should I just be happy I have a smart, social kid and see what happens as she gets to be a little older? Is this where I need to advocate for my kid for some kind of screening? Really unsure of what should happen, if anything. When I talk to DD she just says “people like to talk to me!” acknowledging it’s a problem, kind of. We’re trying to get her to take responsibility for the chatting vs saying it’s others talking to her (teacher assures us it’s both, but once she gets going, she keeps it going). She doesn’t seem bothered about missing choice time that’s made available when you finish an assignment (she never gets any) or being last to finish, which was a concern from the teacher that her self-esteem might be taking a hit. WWYD?
Fellow insomniacs – DH is telling me that I need professional help, and I’m not sure what to do. My sleep problems are really affecting his sleep. OTC sleep aids are not helping. In the past, I’ve gone through phases where I have trouble falling asleep. Generally, I know how to get myself back on track when falling asleep is the issue. That’s not the problem this time around. The current issue is that my sleep quality is really terrible, and I wake up several times during the night. Could a professional help with this? I don’t even know where to start. I’m so exhausted I can’t think straight.

TW: weight loss
I really want to lose my belly fat this year and get a toned physique, and I finally have the time to do it. How should I start? I am not very active right now and have ~20 lb to lose.
