As much as I’m tempted by the latest wardrobe must-haves, I try to focus on filling my closet with pieces I’ll wear on repeat. For example, I’d reach for these classic pants from J.Crew all week long.

These polished, high-rise pants have a classic straight-leg cut. They also have a unique patch pocket and are made of J.Crew’s popular and easy-to-care-for four-season stretch. These pants look good with everything from your favorite tee to your sharpest blazer.

The Carolina Pant is $92.99-$158 and comes in three classic colors, two of which are on sale. It’s available in sizes 00-24 as well as petite and tall.

Ok I need hair help. My six-year-old has long-ish hair that she is VERY resistant to cutting. It’s thin and fine and gets messy over the course of the day no matter how recently it’s been washed. It looks nice when we first brush it in the morning but it’s like the strands separate and fly everywhere over the course of the day. Is there a product we should try?

I think she’d look cute with a pixie cut but I really feel like I’d need her buy in.

Ok I know 9 year old boys are annoying but mine seems especially so. Do you parent your kid’s personality? No, right? He just has to learn to read the room on his own? He does annoying things for attention/ to be funny but the other kids look annoyed so it’s definitely not landing. I want to guide him to pick up social cues but also seems overbearing. Anyone else have an annoying kid? NT fwiw.

I don’t think I’m particularly strict, but I would say I have pretty high standards in some area (listening/following directions, kindness, respect, responsibility, honesty, doing chores/homework (effort, not results)). I also think I’m fun: I’m a mom who plays, we joke and laugh a ton, I’d rather us make the mess and have fun than not make a mess but have less fun. Basically, I want to be a type b mom as long as we’re doing what we ought to be doing. Not doing that? We’re gonna have a problem. Like feel free to be as loud, wild, and messy as you want outside or in the playroom, but when it’s time to clean up and get ready for bed, it’s time to clean up and get ready for bed. You can have a burping contest where I don’t see/hear it, but not at the dinner table. You can express your displeasure with what I made for dinner politely and without attitude or rolling your eyes.

For similarly high expectation parents, how do you determine what behavior is just kids being kids and what is something you won’t permit? Im not trying to always be reprimanding/disciplining, but I also recognize consistency is important. I also try to strike a balance btwn handling bad behavior and also rewarding good behavior (though it’s not my nature to reward for just meeting the expectations).

I do focus on setting clear expectations so we’re all on the same page, but that hasn’t done much to cut down on attitude or whining.

How exactly do I give a 9 month old water? Like specifically what cup thing

Hitting a major summer slump right now and I have no motivation at work. How do you slug through it? I have about 6 weeks until I take a vacation and I am trying to power through.

I have these pants in linen and love them. They have slash pockets and a clean front with a hook-and-bar closure. This version, with patch pockets, a weird tab on the back of the waist, a huge button, and synthetic fabric, just looks cheap. It is a real shame that J Crew does not offer the linen style in cotton and lined wool versions.
