If you decide to leave a community group because the leader has acted unprofessionally, is it better to tell the leader you are leaving or just disappear? This is a group where you are expected to sign out if you aren’t going to be there. The leader would understand exactly what happened if I just stopped attending. It seems like disappearing would be the lowest-drama solution–I don’t want a big conversation.

as a follow up to below, my almost 8 year old is still in pull ups and she would very much like to stop using them, but still wakes up with them wet. our pediatrician suggested one of those alarms, any suggestions? any other tips? i am scared to mess with our sleep!

My 4.75 year old son had a smooth transition from pull ups to just underwear around 4 months ago, with practically no accidents. In the last week he has wet the bed four times, and it happened twice last night (once in his bed, once in my bed). I don’t want to make a big deal out of it because it may just be a developmental blip, but what’s the best way to handle? Back to pull ups or some other training pants? Some kind of bedwetting sheet? He gets very upset when he wakes up soaking wet and we both find it hard to go back to sleep, but I also think he would be bummed if I reintroduce pull ups as he was so proud to give them up.

For those of you who are homeowners: what’s a feature, layout, or other aspect of your yard/house you either ended up with accidentally that you love or didn’t prioritize and now regret? I’m thinking of seemingly minor things that end up impacting your day to day: is the yard flat enough for a swing set? Do you hate having laundry in the basement? Do you think having a living room and family room/great room is overkill or are you glad you have the two living spaces?

My DH and I are making the move from the city to the suburbs, we have 1 toddler and would like a second. Aiming for your average (in our area at least) 4 bed/2.5 bath colonial or something similar.

We entertain a lot, I have dreams of a very cool playroom/rec room/finished basement/etc for the kids, ditto a treehouse or swingset or other cool yard “toys”. We each WFH 1-2x a week so need some space for that. Ditto the home workout set up. We don’t have a ton of overnight guests but if we don’t have space for a guest room will we regret that? Both sets of parents and 2 of our 3 siblings are local so don’t really need to host family.

First day of new daycare, and I just got an offer from a job that I was really interestedin but considered it an unlikely stretch. Very excited about the new job, but the new daycare was selected based on cost and proximity to my current office. New job is WFH. So I guess I’ve got to go daycare hunting AGAIN.

How old were your kids when they became comfortable playing on a different floor of the house from where adults are for decent length stretches (>30 mins)?

We’re in the process of buying a house and I dream of the day we can relegate most toys to a finished basement or another rec room.

Did anyone get their kid a digital handheld microscope, and is it worth it? Thinking about putting it in my 5-year old’s Easter basket

If the school counselor flagged your kid for a pull-out social skills group on learning how to make and keep friends, would you see that as a sign that you should be seeking out private evaluation and therapy? Or trust that the counselor is addressing it? Wait and see?

3rd grade girl, definitely a bit emotionally immature with some ADHD-like behaviors that have started to cause friction with the more mature ~cool~ girls in the grade over the last year or so, but she has a very tight friend group of 4-5 girls and a larger circle of casual pals and gets invited to a decent number of birthday parties. No academic issues, she’s smart and not disruptive in the classroom environment.

Did anyone read the extremely sad and frustrating cover story on Camp Mystic in New York Magazine (there have also been recent pieces in the NYT and Texas Monthly)? There’s so much in there that it’s hard to know where to begin but what I can’t get past is how callous so many people are to the parents who lost their daughters. In the Texas Monthly piece, many of the Texas parents who support reopening/want to send their own daughters back admit that they have never delved into the details of the flooding and that they don’t know the facts of why the parents have filed lawsuits claiming that Camp Mystic committed gross negligence. I like to think that I’m not a judgmental parent and that I “live and let live” – but when I see parents whose girls are alive and well saying things like “Camp Mystic is the safest place on Earth” to the faces of parents whose daughters died there under extremely credible and evidence-based claims of gross negligence, I suddenly feel differently.

this is our first year doing girl scouts. is it common to purchase a year end gift for the troop leaders? we do this for softball, but i wasn’t sure if it is common in girl scouts?

Hello! I am not a cyclist, but I have bought myself a bike, intending to also get a rear-mounted child seat. However, two separate local bike shops and REI have said how the standard rear child seats cannot fit on the standard bike. They recommend a trailer instead.

I know I have seen women my height (5’4″) with rear-mounted child seats riding around. How could they get the seats attached to their bikes?

Do any of you have a 1) rear-mounted child bike seat, or 2) a bike trailer? Toddler is almost 3. Help!

I’m getting nervous seeing these long TSA wait times — our family is traveling for spring break next week. Any tips for handling long lines and uncertainty with a 2- and 5-year old?

I would like to get matching or coordinating outfits for my newborn and toddler (size 4T) for some newborn pictures. Any suggestions for stores to check out?

We’re flying from western Canada to eastern US this summer after a cruise. We’re supposed to dock around 7 am and I’m looking at 10 p.m. flights. What do you do during the day before leaving on an overnight flight?
