Organizing Thursday: Art Supplies Tote
This post may contain affiliate links and CorporetteMoms may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
My kids have their own desks stocked with art supplies, but they prefer to do art in whatever room I’m in.
This roomy art tote would let them take their art supplies wherever they like. It features a large main compartment surrounded by multiple side pockets — fill it with pads of paper, crayons, scissors, and more! Made from durable and easy-care polyester, it could also be used for gardening or knitting supplies.
This art tote is under $20 at Amazon.

Ugh. Also, trigger warning — crazy youth sports.
My 7 year old loves soccer and has been playing on some kiddie leagues for a while. This spring I found him a club rec practice + game (they didn’t play other clubs, just each other) that had a big age range (like 6-9). Mostly because it was a closer drive to us. He was able to hang with the older kiddos but it changed his playing, he hangs back a lot more and prefers defense. This club encouraged us to try out even though they didn’t have a U8 team, they told us he could probably play U9. So we went to tryouts and…an entirely new group of kids had come over from another club (yes, at 7) to form a super competitive team to play on. My kid got cut (idk if I would have taken him to tryouts if I had known it was going to be like this). We had skipped tryouts for any other clubs because I had thought the process was going to be really chill, and again, because he is 7!
Advice/commiseration? I think my feelings were bigger than his, honestly, but the whole thing about tryouts was like this trauma and we don’t talk about it as a family. He still is totally soccer obsessed, though, and has some camps over the summer. I am going to sign him up for another rec team, probably with a different club. Any other thoughts?
For those of you who get seasick or have kids who do, what are your best tips for prevention? We’re taking a 3-hour boat tour (cue Gilligan’s Island theme) which we all are really excited about, but 3/4 of us have gotten motion sick recently in a car so I am predicting that the boat will be… worse? Dramamine helps (but puts me to sleep) if we can keep it down. Should we eat well before or not at all? Bring mineral water on board. What else?
i had two parenting books out bc i was getting ready to give them away – happiest toddler on the block and oh cr*p, the potty training book – my 8 year old decided they looked like interesting reading material and apparently has since read them. i made a comment that i’m happy to take her to the library to get more books to read if she’s finished the ones we have and she was lik,e “mommy im just curious. its good to be curious” and has since asked if i have other similar books for her to read….is there a reason to not let her read parenting books?
This is directed at HSAL or anyone – I have a distant cousin who lost her husband over the weekend after very short and unexpected illness. They have two children, 10 and under. I don’t know the cousin well at all, but we share an aunt whom I’m very close to. My aunt is there, and I’d like to support both my aunt and cousin by sending something. My default is cookies with a note? Is that appropriate? Aunt confirmed there are no allergies. I also put a note on my calendar to send something else in 6 months.
Tell me more about YMCA of the Rockies! My family likes the outdoors but is over the hassle of camping, and our budget does not accommodate fancy resorts or vacation home rentals. Is YMCA of the Rockies too good to be true? Is it appropriate for a family with teens or only for little kids? What are the differences between the two properties? Could you stay there and easily drive to good beginner downhill skiing?
And a random question: how much taxidermy is there in lobbies and dining areas? We have a taxidermy phobia in the family, which makes mountain vacations challenging.
I posted a few weeks ago about being a runner in my 40s. Came back to report that I have started lifting weights two days a week and well … I sort of love it! I’ve kept running and am ignoring the media craze about giving up long cardio.
Previously when I lifted weights I was doing lots of reps and it felt boring, but switching to higher weight lower reps has made it a lot more enjoyable.
It leaves me really sore though. Does that get better?
Anyway, thanks for the pep talk.
This might be too specific but – Any tips for Estes Park with three kids under 8? Youngest is 3 and too big for a hiking backpack, so we are somewhat limited. We have timed entry for Bear Lake for one day. This is our first vacation with kids that isn’t visiting family so any general advice would also be appreciated!
Just a vent that some friends, who have a 2 yr old, suggested going to a park to watch the next WC match with our 3 kids. It’s the kind of venue where you bring a picnic and camp chairs and actually watch the match on a huge screen. Last time it was PACKED. Less – the match and is at a playground kind of thing. They will just give their 2 yr old a phone and be done….but they don’t get that’s not how we parent and not how we want to hang out?
Friends are long time close to DH from childhood so we’re trying to maintain and politely be like that’s crazy and going to result in us following kids or trying to keep them chill in a huge crowd.
I’m not asking anything just like UGH. They always suggest off the wall ideas that aren’t kid friendly.
Any suggestions for a last minute trip for a family of 5 (baby, 3.5, 5.5) at end of August? We just drove 12 hr each way to Hilton Head and actually had a great time. I don’t think we’re up for driving that long again. Located in DC.
Can anyone recommend a bowl that actually suctions to the stokke tripp trapp high chair tray? My ezpz bowl and some other I think munchkin from my first kid 5 years ago aren’t sticking and I’m tired of the baby dumping stuff on the ground. These things stick on the countertop so idk why they don’t stick on the tray!
It’s finally the last day of school here. Yay for summer break!!
