I continue to be obsessed with Alexis Bittar, and I like this blingy bracelet just in over at Last Call. It seems like the bracelet doesn’t have the pull-factor of earrings (which I will describe as “that fear that your kid will playfully yank your earrings out of your head”), it doesn’t have the sometimes-they-fit-sometimes-they don’t factor of rings, and they don’t have the heavy, clunky feeling of statement necklaces (as much as I love ’em). It’s $119 (was $170). Alexis Bittar Cabochon Bypass Hinge Bracelet, Golden (L-2)Sales of note for 4.18.24

Any recommendations for a crib protector? My 13-month old has started chewing on the edge of his crib and doing a lot of damage!
ABA says
We use this one for the long side of the crib: http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Teether-Convertible-Cover-Ivory/dp/B001D20K40/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1432827138&sr=8-3&keywords=crib+protector+velcro and this one for the sides of the crib: http://www.amazon.com/Trend-Lab-Fleece-CribWrap-Covers/dp/B005BWXHTS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1432827112&sr=8-4&keywords=crib+protector

No problems with the child learning how to undo the velcro on the first option? Amazon reviews also cite a chemical smell on the second option. Any experience with that?
kc esq says
I used Leachco for all 4 sides of the crib. It does the trick. We haven’t had an issue with the velcro. We also don’t attach toys or anything, so it’s not really an attraction to my son.

Any recommendations for a bassinet/co-sleeper on the cheap and small end of the spectrum (small bedroom)? We were originally thinking we were going to just do the Pack N Play + attachments for newborn, but we have decided not to go that route…
Carrie M says
We went with a Kolcraft bassinet from BRU for a few reasons: (1) it was on sale, (2) it had a slight incline, which was good for our reflux baby, (3) it fit in our tiny bedroom, and (4) we were desperate and didn’t really care that it was not the most attractive thing in the world. We ended up not being able to use it after about 4 months because our baby was long and kept kicking the edge of it and waking herself up. So, in retrospect, I’m glad I didn’t spend a lot of money on something we used for such a short period and that no one saw since it stayed in our bedroom. Hope that helps! And congratulations!!

Thank you!

We used the newborn attachment for the Travel Lite PacknPlay. The Travel Lite is quite a bit smaller than a regular PnP, so that might be worth looking at.
We also used a Moses basket at a friend’s house and once used a laundry basket when we were traveling to a friend’s house – not fancy, but it got the job done!

We used the rock n play in our bedroom for the first few months. I think it’s around $50 and great because it’s light weight and easy to move upstairs or downstairs for naps.
JEB says
Totally agree with the rock n play suggestion! Cheap, convenient, light weight, easy to fold, etc.
RDC says
Rock n play! Was the only place our baby would sleep for the first month (and totally worth it just to get through that time). He still sleeps in it (at 6 months) when he’s congested because it’s on an incline. They have a self-rocking model now, which also would have been totally worth the extra money.
We also got the summer infant by your side sleeper, which was more bassinet-like, and which we used on top of a set of drawers in our bedroom. We needed up moving baby into his own room at four weeks though, because he made so much noise (even when sleeping – grunts, moans, etc) it was keeping us awake.
anon says
I’d really recommend seeing if you can borrow something — we had thought we would keep the baby in our room for several months, but moved him to his own room after less than two weeks because BABIES MAKE SO MUCH NOISE. So the co-sleeper we borrowed has been in his room for three months (and he’s about to outgrow it). We also LOVED the rock n play for the first five or so weeks, but our baby never slept in it at night because he didn’t have a problem sleeping flat. He did, however, have a problem being set down flat on his back if he was awake, so the rock n play was key. And now, at 3 months, we have no use for it.
blueridge29 says
Agree 100 percent, dd sleeps beautifully in her crib at night, but screams bloody murder during the day. The rock n play has been her nap site during the day.
Due in December says
Thank you for all the replies. Will have to run these suggestions by DH tonight. We are the first of our friends to have a baby in a small city apartment (and the first of our friends in our city to have a baby at all), so already the advice from those on this s*ite has already been really great to have!

For anyone who remembers my post from last week about mixed results at my 20 week anatomy scan — I got my NIPT blood test back yesterday, and everything is fine! Thank goodness! But what a stressful couple of weeks it has been . . . .

PSA: Nordstrom is able to alter regular bras into nursing bras. Obviously, not suitable for all bras, but nice to know that there are more options out there.
JDJD says
They will also convert any bra into a nursing bra – not just ones that you purchase there (at least in DFW).
PDX says
Yeah, but at mine they wanted $16 for a bra purchased at Nordstroms (with receipt) and $32 for one purchased elsewhere. So I bought the supplies for ~$5 and did it myself in about 15 minutes.

we got the guava lotus travel bassinet and crib set. great for travel (can wear as a backpack) and the bassinet is great for the early weeks at home.
