Speaking of furniture, does anyone have a reliable source for furniture that’s actually sold in one piece and delivered to your house by guys with a moving truck? I feel like everything is shipped in a box, build it yourself at home now. I hate building it or nagging my husband to build it. We have hired task rabbit/handymen type people a few times but the last couple of times we did that it’s been terrible so I really want to pay for fully assembled furniture. Specifically looking for kids’ beds at the moment, but also generally. Macy’s used to be a good source but lately I’m having trouble there. Pottery Barn Kids is the best source I’ve found for kids’ furniture you don’t have to build, but we had a bad experience with the quality from them, so trying to avoid that. I feel like this shouldn’t be so hard but it’s really frustrating.
Our son is starting kindergarten next week. We have decided that dropping him off by car is going to work better for us in the morning. However, I just found out that he is supposed to be able to get in and out of the car and his carseat by himself at dropoff. Parents are not allowed to get out of the car.
DS is having trouble unbuckling his carseat… I don’t really want to switch him to a booster yet due to his size. Does anyone have any tips for this?
Having a silly dilemma in my head lately! We need to upgrade a few pieces of furniture in our house (like the kitchen table that is ancient and handed down through several family members and has lasted through 2 kids learning solids and the toddler phase). We have the money to upgrade some items, but my husband and I are also hoping to purchase a new home in the next year. However, we’ve been looking for a few months now and the market is awful (I highly suspect I am not alone here!). We may end up staying put for a few more years until the market calms down, but haven’t been able to make the call. Should I just spend the darn money and get a few nice pieces? Or wait it out? Argh. Haha I suppose this is a very first world problem.

my middle-schooler has gotten very into running and likes me to go with her. We’ve been doing an easy 1.5-2 miles each morning for the past several weeks and it’s fun.
My ankles, knees and hips are *killing* me.
I’m generally an active person (pickleball, swimming, barre, hiking, kayaking) but I’ve never been a “runner” and I could benefit from 10-15 minutes of running-focused strength and mobility exercises to support this new activity with my kid!
We’ve just about finished our first chapter book with our newly turned 6 year old son. It is wild robot and he loved it. Any recs for similar books?
He has no interest in superheroes. He might like fantasy. I think he really enjoyed the nature and animals in wild robot.
Is it crazy to get a new car for carpooling purposes? This fall we’re doing travel sports carpooling for the first time with two other families. There is a good chance I will sometimes need to bring my younger kid along when I’m on carpool duty, which means I need to fit four boosters/ car seats and only have room for three. We had been toying with the idea of getting a new car, but now I’m thinking I NEED a new car, and specifically one with a third row. We were car-free for many years and still don’t drive a ton so this all feels very foreign to me. But I have to think this is just the beginning of the carpool years?
Carpooling families–does this sound reasonable? And are there three-row options you recommend? Currently thinking about a used Audi or Volvo, with the goal of someday getting a Rivian if we can afford it (they are so pricey!).
My son is 4 and in daycare. All of a sudden everything is about butts and poop and pee. I’m trying to give him some space because he’s a boy and this is normal, but it’s nonstop regardless of who we’re with and where we are. I’ve talked to him several times about time and place, but he’s 4 and that didn’t work, so then told him he needs to stop completely. Is this really normal?? It’s been a couple months at this point. I’m losing my mind.
A few days ago, I begged a friend to come help when I was solo parenting with the stomach flu. Now she came down with it! If feel terribly guilty, is there anything I could do to make up for it?
My son’s closet smells. He’s 8, so it’s not teenage boy funk. It’s that human body smell that collects on clothes you wear a lot, even if you wash them frequently. We moved his hamper to just outside the closet door, and we leave the closet door open to get fresh air. His dresser and all his clothes are in the closet. Any ideas how to freshen things up? I don’t like glade plug-ins or other strong smells. Do we need stronger detergent? Some of those baking powder scent-collectors? Light a candle on days I work from home?
