Organizing Thursday: Under-Sink Shelves

I just replaced my kitchen faucet, and in the process, faced all the clutter under my sink.
Wrangle under-sink clutter with a simple shelf like this one. The two-tiered design stores cleaning supplies, dish detergent, and more. The mesh bottom drains excess water, so it’s easy to clean. Buy another for the bathroom sink while you’re at it.
Brightroom’s under-sink shelves are $12 at Target.

Just a vent. My baby recently started daycare and came home with a cold the very first week. And then DH got sick then I got sick and just as we’re all finally starting to feel better, LO has a runny nose again.
On top of that. One of my (law) partners was home sick with her school aged kids, but decided to bring them into the office today because she needed some files and then hours later she’s still here because oh it’s just easier to work here. She’s married and has local family btw. WHY are your sick kids running around the office sticking their hands and faces into the lunch that was being delivered for my meeting — which neither they nor you are even invited to??? (I am now the Mean Lady because I sternly told them OUT when I saw them trying to open the lunches).
My kid has been home sick all week binging on screen time while I tried to work. Symptoms were gone today so I made her go to spring break vacation camp over her strenuous objections (she basically was worried she wouldn’t know any kids there I think). Only to sit down at my computer and find out I’m pretty much out of work to do. Possibly I’m a monster.
Funny kid sayings thread? My 5 year old recently started designating how all his stuffed animals are related, which has led to such funny announcements as “the planet Jupiter is Ollie (the otter)’s babysitter” and “Kermit is Giraffe’s grandpa”.
Another post about the absurdity of elementary school absence tracking….kid has missed 8 days due to flu/fevers/ vomiting etc… and two days for vacation/family in town. We get a truancy letter from school and then the principal accompanies it with basically – we know you’re keeping your kid home because they are sick, please keep doing that – we have to send this letter due to state law. If we’re concerned we’ll call you. Such a waste of time and resources.
Since kid-friendly meals are a frequent topic here, I thought I’d share two recent winners in our household. Context: my kids are 12 and 9, and until recently were very picky eaters, but are now “typical kid picky”. Both are NYT Cooking recipes: first is “skillet chickpea Parmesan”, and second is “slow cooker garlic butter chicken”. Kids happily ate them and asked for seconds. The amount pride and accomplishment I felt at adding two meals to our otherwise boring meal repertoire should be embarrassing, but I don’t even care, ha!

In case anyone finds it helpful. I dropped off a rental car this AM at the Houston Airport (IAH / George Bush). It suggested 210 mins wait, but but they time I was in the terminal is said 150 mins. It actually took 65 mins. Obviously, this is anecdotal information. Seeing ICE agents there not awesome (Not really sure why they are needed for crowd control… vs. other options). The actual TSA agents were great.
Planning on telling family about my pregnancy this weekend, but now I keep worrying that I’m going to jinx it by telling. I’m just over 10 weeks and had an ultrasound with a heartbeat at 8 weeks, so I know I’m pregnant and odds of miscarriage are very low. Also young, fit, and had one easy pregnancy before. But it’s all just too easy and I’m suspicious. Got pregnant immediately after getting off birth control, and the only pregnancy symptom I’ve had is some gas. Like, I got multiple positive pregnancy tests and saw it on an ultrasound, but it still doesn’t feel real.
Hi all. Not-so-anxious Mom here. Had a parent-teacher conference for DS #2. He’s 5, starts K next year. He’s doing great/ahead academically. Socially, he plays with everyone, engages, participates. All this is good, but the teacher said that it’s hard for him to emotionally regulate. Not surprising for us to hear this. Teacher confirmed it doesn’t disrupt learning/class.
E.g. if someone asks him to scoot over he’ll yell “FINE” or “UGHH” and do it. We see this at home, too, lots of drama (“FINE I’M NOT EATING!”), but then he ultimately is okay. Sometimes he throws himself on the ground like he’s 2 or 3 at home, and lots of crying when he doesn’t get what he wants.
Part of me thinks time and continuing to work on it at home will help a ton. Even this AM we talked/practiced “hey let’s pretend someone asks us to scoot over”, and he was…fine. Any tips/thoughts?
My less elegant but super useful bathroom hack is a clear pocket shoe hanger on the back of the bathroom door. Everyone can see what we have, so I’m not the keeper of all knowledge re. the location of children’s tylenol, bite cream, or our stock of toothpaste.
How often do you have time that you’re not working and not taking care of kids? Relatedly, how often do you and your spouse go out for dates?
