Related to the Killian/Kilian/Cillian comment – I just realized that my third child is also going to have an easily misspelled name and I honestly wouldn’t worry as much about spelling.
Kid #1 – easy to spell, really only one way to spell it name. Kid #2 – name with two spellings, picked one but it’s a Sofia/Sophia or Isabel/Isabelle/Isobel or Zach/Zack situation where kid frequently gets their name spelled with the other version. Kid #3 is getting a family name but will go by a nickname. The nickname is very very easy.
The family name is an alternate spelling of a not-uncommon first name. Think Jacksen vs. Jackson or Conor vs. Connor. I would now like to apologize for my prior judgmental self who – when pregnant with her first child was absolutely adamant that I didn’t want to give my child a name that was easily misspelled. Now I’ve realized that… it actually doesn’t make a difference!
And as for my concerns that they would have paperwork issues in life? Husband has a very normal name (think James) and recently found out his HR paperwork has been set up misspelled for… 10 years? In their internal files?
