If you’ve sworn off heels at the office post-pandemic and are looking for something more comfortable but stylish, we’ve got you: Today we’re rounding up our favorite washable flats. Machine washable shoes are a great option for anyone, but with added parent-related hazards like a toddler’s favorite sticky foods, they’re perfect for working moms.
What are your favorite washable flats for work and weekend? If you’ve found other washable flats you like — perhaps from smaller, less well-known brands — let us know in the comments!
By the way, if you do prefer heels for the office but want to ease your feet back into work shoes for RTO with extra-comfy ones, check out our Guide to Comfortable Heels over at Corporette.
(Hunting for more machine washable clothing? We feature some trendy washable workwear every Wednesday, have listed the best brands for washable workwear, and occasionally do roundups of just washable basics for work outfits!)
Our Latest Favorite Washable Flats
Looking for washable flats? You’d be surprised how many there are. As of 2025, our favorites include Rothy’s (also at Nordstrom!), Skechers, Vivaia, AllBirds, and Amazon seller Tingrise.
The Best Washable Flats
Rothy’s
Rothy’s focuses on sustainability for its machine washable shoes and bags (read all about it on their sustainability page, including details on their purpose-built, eco-friendly factory), and they’ve repurposed more than 200 million (!) water bottles so far. Some of their styles are made from hemp and RWS-certified merino wool, as well. And when your shoes have worn out, you can recycle them at a Rothy’s store! (Here’s their shoe care guide.)
You can get this style, The Point, in more staid versions, but I absolutely love the flower applique on the pictured Petal Point II. *drool* The site notes that the brand’s designers are looking for ways to add more feminine touches to the bestselling Point in general, and this one is definitely a win. The comfort touches are added elastic, a roomy toe box, comfort insoles, and sculpted outsoles. The Point is available in sizes 5-13 for $169 with free shipping on all orders.
Allbirds
Like Rothy’s, Allbirds prioritizes eco-friendly practices. For one, they’re working on cutting their carbon footprint in half by the end of 2025, then reducing it to near zero by 2030. They also use natural materials: wool, trees, sugar, recycled bottles, recycled nylon, and Trino / Trino XO, “nature’s super-yarns” made from eucalyptus tree fibers and ZQ Merino wool.
Click on Sustainability for a menu that brings you to a TON of info on their eco-friendly practices. And here’s their shoe care guide.
Another great thing about Allbirds is their ReRun section (where I bought my pair of Rothy’s), which offers “slightly imperfect and gently used” shoes. I probably would have never bought used shoes unless they’d been carefully vetted by a company like this. They arrived in new condition.
Allbirds’ bestsellers include the pictured Tree Breezer, a breathable knit flat made from yes, a tree fiber material blend. They have cushioned soles made from sugarcane and an insole made from castor bean oil (!). The flats are available in sizes 5-11 in lots of colors and patterns for $70 on sale (normally $100). “Navy night” is pictured.
Skechers
To a younger Gen Xer like me, Skechers brings to mind their colorful, thick-sole sneakers and ey-magazine celebrity ads of the ’90s and early ’00s, but today the brand has some nice work-appropriate flats on offer.
I like these Cleo flats because the scalloped edge is a subtle touch, and the texture adds some more interest. They’re machine washable, vegan, made from recyclable materials, and have a memory foam sole. The shoes are also designed with a “sock-like” feel, which sounds great to me! They’re about $30 at Amazon (tons of great reviews!) in sizes 6-10. In addition to black, they’re available in navy, natural, and mocha.
Vivaia
Vivaia’s shoes are eco-friendly, and many are made from recycled plastic bottles. They also contain natural materials like sugarcane EVA, rice husks, and natural rubber. Many styles are machine washable, and the rest can be cleaned with the brand’s cleaning kit. Plus, they have a generous size range. (Here’s their washing guide.)
This washable Margot 2.0 flat comes in tons of colors, some eye-catching prints, and various textures (with even more available at Vivaia’s site), and sizes 5-13, including a wide option. I like this square toe combined with the V-shaped vamp, though it may not be to everyone’s taste! The available colors include black, a grass green, mustard yellow, red hearts, a large black-and-white check, and leopard print. They’re around $100 at Amazon.
Tingrise
Here are some affordable washable flats available at Amazon that are made from a soft, breathable knit fabric that’s perfect for spring. Tingrise has several styles available at Amazon with mostly pointed-toe silhouettes. (Btw, while this shoe isn’t machine washable, the little bow on the toe is adorable, so I have to highlight it.)
I love this dark shade of olive on the pictured shoe. This flat is available in sizes 6.5-10 and in six mostly neutral colors. The crisscross straps are pretty and also give you a little more security than a standard flat. If you have to run for the train or something like that, you know you won’t step out of them! Tingrise flats are around $30 at Amazon.
Readers, do tell: What do you think are the best washable flats?
Other Comfortable Flats for Work
Some other options for comfortable flats, including some of our favorite comfortable flats for work in general:
Our Latest Favorite Comfortable Flats for Work in General
Some of our favorite comfortable flats for work as of 2025 include AGL, M.M.LaFleur, and French Sole. On the more affordable side, check out Rothy’s, Sam Edelman, and Rockport. We’ve also rounded up the best loafers for work, and our favorite sneakers for work outfits!
Foldable Flats
… and foldable flats — great for another lightweight option if you’re traveling, or if you’re just getting used to heels and want to keep a flat option in your bag.
Some of our favorite foldable flats as of 2025 include Silky Toes, Yosi Samra (at Amazon and Nordstrom), and Amazon seller HEAWISH. If you’re looking to splurge, the Tory Burch travel flat also has a split sole.
I don’t understand why “nice” shoes have to be narrow and pointy. I have wide feet, which has engendered a feud with shoes, and the it seems that anything that resembles the actual shape of a foot is considered casual and/or unfashionable.
A word of warning about Rothy’s: they have recently changed the sizing, even on their original styles. My pre-pandemic The Points are nice and narrow in the heel. I recently ordered two pairs of the original The Point, not the updated The Point 2.0, and they are so much wider that I walked right out of them. Very sad because Rothys was one of the few brands that used to fit me.
Sketchers also has one! The Cleo flat. It’s about $50.
I am a total Rothy’s convert, they’re all my picky feet want to wear now. I prefer points for work (biz casual) and have many colors. Two pro tips: 1. Always make sure you’re washing with cold water. People put ice cubes in the wash with their shoes (esp if it’s summer and the tap might be warm-ish). Never put them in the dryer. Heat will shrink them. So also be careful keeping them in a hot car, etc. 2. Despite what the website says they are NOT true to size. I wear 2 sizes up from my street size in points, but it really varies. Order 3-4 sizes and return what doesn’t fit. They should feel loose. There are FB groups that are really great at helping people with sizing. If you follow the directions, they really do wash up nicely and seem to last.
