I love autumn’s cooler weather, and this merino base layer from REI will keep me cozy and dry all season long.
Made from ultrafine merino wool (which naturally wicks away sweat, dries quickly, and resists odors), this top will be your constant outdoor companion. It even provides UPF 30 sun protection. Use it for running (errands), hiking (through the parking lot), camping out (in carpool lanes), or whatever you do this fall.
REI Co-op’s Merino 185 Long-Sleeve Base Layer Top is $79.95. It comes in five fall-friendly colors and is available in sizes XS–XL and 1X–3X.

Food says
What are your favorite foods to keep your energy up? I am b*feeding my baby and between that, pumping at work, and how little sleep I’m getting, I’m just feeling very depleted. I feel like I’m drinking a lot of water and eating plenty of high fat foods like avocados and yogurt and ice cream but am still so hungry!

I burned a LOT of calories while nursing. I ate like a NFL player! All the food, all the time. Lost all the baby weight without effort.
My pandemic weight gain is another story. Wish I was nursing!

This was my experience, too.
With the caveat than it’s been a long time since I was nursing… protein helps me a lot when I’m feeling tired. Hard boiled eggs, cheese + anything (fruit, crackers, cold cuts). Also, I recently discovered that crushed walnuts or hazelnuts and berries on top of yogurt is the best thing ever. At work, I usually mainline hot tea and munch on sliced peppers or cucumbers for most of the afternoon — it’s not so much that I need calories, I just need the physical act of eating/drinking
That said, food along is not going to counteract the exhaustion that comes with having a baby that doesn’t sleep through the night.

The nursing hunger is real! I needed high fat, high protein, and high sugar. So nuts, cheese, eggs, peanut butter and Nutella on everything, granola. If supply is a concern, Gatorade was a source of sugar + electrolytes. For some reason the sugar seemed to help me with milk supply.

So I know preschoolers are not known for their emotional regulation, but how much disregulation is normal? My almost 5 year old still gets extremely upset when she gets told no. Yesterday we were driving and she was in the best mood, chatting happily away with me, and then she dropped a toy on the floor and told me to stop and get it and I said I would get it when we got home in 5 minutes, and she threw a different toy at my head. I would expect this behavior from a 2 year old, but it seems really inappropriate at 4.75? We visited friends with same age kids recently and the difference between their kids and mine was stark. My friends seemed really horrified by my kid’s behavior and seemed to think we’ve caused it by spoiling her. We have never given into tantrums or whining and do automatic timeouts for anything physical (including throwing things at people) so I don’t know what more we should be doing? When she’s not throwing a tantrum she’s a happy, easy-going, rule-following kid. But she just turns on a dime and completely loses it, and it happens so frequently.

My older is 6 and I feel like it comes in waves. He was at a point over the summer where I would say he’d never do that anymore. But now, with K putting him on a new scheduling and wearing him out, I could see him doing that. Except we have an extremely strict rule about throwing things at the driver (for safety reasons), so he wouldn’t do that. He would kick the seat or threaten to not let me be his mother anymore.
Anon says
Not to be obtuse but how have you enforced this rule? I would say we have an extremely strict rule about not throwing things at the driver (and she definitely understands it’s a safety issue) but it still happens.
