The summer sun is still going strong, so I find myself hunting around for a pair of sunglasses whenever I go out.
These polarized aviators from Australian company Quay need to find a place in my bag. There’s a lot of sun Down Under, so they know their sunglasses. This pair has a pretty rose-gold frame, green polarized lenses for clarity even on the brightest days, and non-slip nose pads. The oversized frames are universally flattering and work for both weekend road trips and weekday commutes.
These sunglasses are $85 at Nordstrom.

How did you get on a good exercise routine, postpartum? I cannot seem to bring myself to be consistent.

Fit4Moms or Stroller Strides?

Maybe it depends on where you live, but in my area that stuff caters heavily to SAHMs. My job is flexible and I can actually attend exercise class at 2 pm on a Tuesday, but I felt very unwelcome in that crowd. It was a lot of “oh good for you that you’re able to leave your baby at daycare, I could NEVER.” My kid was not a newborn at the time so it just made me kind of roll my eyes, but I think as a first time mom on maternity leave those negative attitudes about working parenting and daycare would have been super anxiety-inducing.
OP, is the goal weight loss or simply moving your body or are you trying to get back to an intense fitness level you had before? If you just want to move your body, walking (both alone and with baby in a stroller or sling) has been by far the most sustainable thing for me, but it’s obviously not the most intense form of exercise. If it’s about weight loss, unfortunately that’s as much or more about diet than exercise.

I think it does depend on where you live. The one I went to was not like that at all, and I loved it. I don’t mean to diminish your experience, just to offer OP that if this sounds appealing she might want to at least try it.

Stroller Strides in our area was all working moms on maternity leave. It was a great way to meet other moms with kids the same ages. I’m not sure it would be as great for kids born in the hot summer or cold winter when you don’t want to bring an infant outside, but it was fabulous for spring and fall babies.

4 years later I was in a car accident for which I have been doing physical therapy for months. Once I get released I intend to pay for a trainer on the same schedule since it is the first and only time in my life I have consistently gotten exercise. Apparently I won’t show up for myself, but I will show up for other people (in a way group classes just don’t motivate).

OP, I think my answer would depend on your goals, preferred type of exercise, and knowing what motivates you (the best exercise routine is the one that is most accessible to you and that you’re most likely to do), but this was my personal experience:
I have two kids who are now 4 and 7. I never got into a routine till each kid was at least 1 and sleeping better. It was very frustrating to watch friends get into a postpartum workout routine, seemingly effortlessly, but I realized they were probably not waking two or three times in the middle of the night. Honestly, what worked for me after kid 2 was a split night some nights — falling asleep putting the kids to bed at 8pm, then waking up naturally around midnight, feeding the baby, going off to do a workout or run on the treadmill (at the time, we lived in an apartment building with a tiny basement exercise room), taking a shower and falling asleep again around 1.30 or 2. It worked well for me but I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, you really have to work with your body’s natural rhythms and what works best for you.
The year my second turned 2 I had all these big plans – a half marathon! A marathon! Then a pandemic put paid to all that, lol. These days I am an early morning runner. The kids are early risers and so am I, so I have to wake up just before 5am to get any time to myself.

Commiseration/following with interest. It’s been a year and I still can’t get myself back into a good routine. I realize that pre-kid my workout routines were veeeeery luxurious (chill with coffee for an hour, go do an hour long work out, come home and spend an hour making/eating a smoothie and showering) and that was really what was motivating me. For now I’ve just been trying to walk as much as I can and work out whenever the mood randomly strikes.

this might be a monday morning question, but how do I search previous threads? I am trying to find recommendations for payroll service companies so I can pay my nanny on the books. I typed “nanny pay” into the search box and a few other combinations but didn’t really see what I am asking.
PS any suggestions?? I’ll ask again monday but now is when I have time to try and figure this out.

I’d try “nanny payroll” over “nanny pay.” The latter will return a lot of discussion about how much people pay.
