A woman wearing blue jeans and a brown Fair Isle sweater

Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

A plush Fair Isle sweater is just what I need to brighten up a gray winter day.

This version from Veronica Beard is made from a soft blend of baby alpaca and merino wools. The traditional pattern, brushed texture, and thicker weight means it will be a cold weather favorite for years to come.

This sweater is $598 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes XS-XL.

This one from Seasalt Cornwall is another option available in sizes 18-20 for $198.

My mom is local and very involved with my kids. In general she’s an awesome grandma but she really sees the worst in people and tends to overreact and want to cut people off for minor things. This impacted me a lot growing up and I had trouble making and keeping friends because I was so sensitive to minor slights. I don’t want my kids to be doormats who let their friends walk all over them, but I want them to have more resilience and ability to get past minor disagreements or hurts than I did.

We had a situation this weekend where we were supposed to do something with friends and there was a bit of a miscommunication and they left right as we were arriving. It wasn’t ideal and I think the friends could have handled it better, but at the same time we were a little late and it was more of a miscommunication than anything else. My kids were disappointed the plans didn’t work out, but not seriously upset. But now my mom is going on and on to my kids about how awful these friends are and how we shouldn’t be friends with people who treat us like this. This is not the takeaway I want my kids to have from this situation. Other things like this have happened with my mom before, this is just one recent example. I’ve tried directly asking her not to weigh in on my kids’ social dynamics with their friends, but she doesn’t stop.

Any thoughts? Anyone have a grandparent like this?

Continuation of the Friday mom confessions thread: sometimes I wish I still lived alone. I am so tired of not being able to just order a pizza and collapse with a good book or show to recharge when life gets to be too much. Thanks to special diets and needy people I have to hold it together, cook all meals from scratch, and keep all the balls in the air even when I am falling apart.
