just venting — i know that people like to complain about the number of apps/emails received from schools, activities, etc. but at the same time, it is kind of rude to the volunteer organizers (and I am not actually even one of them) to not read any of the emails and then ask questions in the group chat that were answered via the email…i work with college students and in our office we often vent about their inability to fully read a syllabus, put things on their calendar, etc., but if they never see it done at home, they have to learn from somewhere. by no means am i perfect and i’m sure i miss things, but it also is not that hard to add dates to your calendar or to click on the calendar link sent to you by the activity organizer. people (who also work at paying jobs) are volunteering their time – seems like the least you can do.

I don’t know if it’s the summer or their ages or me being super aware of it, but… my children will not stop touching each other. Like, obviously hitting/kicking/aggression is shut down immediately but… I feel like I am dealing with them just… nonstop touching one another.

I feel like a crazy lady because I am correcting 4 million times a day and intervening constantly rather than letting them figure it out because I saw it bleeding into summer camp. Like – it was okay to just kind of poke your brother at home but at camp you’re getting in trouble for not keeping hands to one’s self (my camp is very no-nonsense) so now I’m consistently correcting every. single. time.

I feel like I’m doing what I’m ‘supposed’ to do but it’s not effective. Like, we’re so far past warnings I’m doling out consequences left and right. I hate it – does anyone have tips that have worked for their kids when they went through this delightful ‘season’?

So my kid apparently has pinworms. Ick, ick, ick. How hard is it to get rid of these? Sounds like there are over-the-counter treatments available, so I’ll probably start there.

I’m wearing more dresses lately, and love how easy it is to get ready and look put together! I love my Boden dresses, but they are cotton and I worry about fading from machine washing (which I plan to continue to do) and occasional drying. I also frequently ruin clothing with oil stains (source: unknown), so I don’t like to spend more than $80-90 on a dress. I will continue to shop the Boden sale section, and my Uniqlo dresses have also held up really well. Any other winners you can recommend to me?

Stokke Trip Trap question – we have a tall almost 4 yo and a newborn. I’m trying to decide if I buy a second Trip Trap for the baby, or just move her sister to a regular chair by the time baby starts solids in 6 months. Maybe with a booster? How long should I expect to use the Trip Trap? 4 yo is used to her chair and I do think she sits better in it, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to buy two.

Did you grow up in a family with a golden child / scapegoat dynamic? If so, how have you reconciled it as an adult? How do you parent to keep it from playing out with your kids?

Do you use your phone when you’re with your kids at the playground or somewhere else outside?

DD11 and DD8 and I started watching Just Add Magic this weekend and it is perfect for them: sweet stories about tween friendships and family dynamics, a bit of mystery/magic but not scary, cooking, not every character has a phone.

How do you get your kids to eat neater and stop staining their clothes? My kids are 8 and 5, and I feel like after every meal we end up with stains on their clothes, the worst of which are butter and chocolate ice cream. I feel like I spend the entire dinner asking them to eat over their plates. I don’t know if I should double-down on the corrections, or give up all together. I hate spending our mealtime together stressed out and constantly correctly, but I also hate spending my time trying to get stains out of every piece of clothing I buy them. Should I try making them stain treat the clothes? I’m just sick of the whole thing and of course just bought new school clothes and am dreading giving them to the kids. I don’t really want to just send them to school with stained clothes all the time…

So, tried that toddler camping trip and was ready for the challenges that entails – then once we’re there and all the stuff is set up, we discover that he has HFMD. Again. Can’t help but laugh, honestly. Luckily it seems very mild so far but this is the second time in less than a year, of course tied to daycare.

Please don’t waste $90 on something a woman will bleed on! Let her use the free robe and get her something off the registry that will be useful for more than one day.
