We have an offer accepted on a house! Inspection is tomorrow and we’ve never done this before, what should I make sure I do there? I’m assuming taking photos/videos/measurements of all the rooms and talking to the inspector tons.
(This is also kind of an update post. I had posted months ago wondering if we were being too picky about wanting a specific street. This house is shockingly perfect. I’m so excited.)
Anyone else in the DMV awaiting this storm? What precautions are you taking or planning on?
I know there are a few posters here who have mentioned being very water-oriented families (sailing, lots of ocean swimming, junior lifeguarding, what have you). Curious what age your kids started swim lessons and what age they could actually swim? We just started our toddler in lessons and we’ve decided it’s worth the cost even if he doesn’t learn that quickly since it’s a nice activity to do each week, but I’d say we’re similarly highly motivated to have a very strong swimmer eventually because of our lifestyle. Just curious how you handled the younger years and what progress you saw.
My disorganized MIL told my very sensitive DD that she would be coming to visit the weekend after her birthday, which is also the weekend of DD’s dance recital, but my MIL forgot she has a bat mitzvah to attend. DD is going to be CRUSHED. This isn’t until May- so i break the news now or wait?
My son is autistic, but in a mainstream elementary class. He has started to be really good friends with another boy in his class. We’ve had a couple of playground dates that went great. I’d love to get to know the parents better. My question is, should I tell them that my kid is autistic? On the one hand it doesn’t change anything and they know generally how he is from watching him, so I’m inclined not to. But maybe it could help them understand him? Also I have a sneaking suspicion that their kid might have ADHD, but of course would never bring that up to them. Wondering what y’all think.
Has anyone dealt with pinworms and how did you get rid of them?
I’m fairly certain my son and I have them and pediatrician agrees. We took 2 doses of the OTC meds and washed our bedding everyday (in addition to our existing routine of handwashing a lot), assuming that would be sufficient. But I think we still have them? We took another dose last night and did (another) deep clean of our bedrooms and bathrooms.; Our pediatrician didn’t mention doing cleaning at all and I see a lot of variability on the internet about how intensely to clean to get rid of them.
Also, my son is young and really loves taking a bath before bed – I’m assuming we should stop that but for how long?
Help!
I’m reading Breath by James Nestor, and finding it makes me incredibly anxious for my kids. The book claims learning to breath deeply through your nose helps a host of health problems that run in my family. Even though I am hopeful that breathing exercises will help my health, how can I possibly get my kids to help themselves? I can’t even get them to stop picking their noses!
Anyone have any advice or encouragement?
Any great ideas for an 8-year-old girl “sleep under” party at our house? We have them coming at 5, leaving at 8:30. Pizza/dinner by 5:30. Magician comes at 6:30-7:30 – if this sounds young, he was a referral and I’m confident he’ll be a hit. For that last hour we’ll do cake and then what? The sleep under has been a huge trend (that I am squarely HERE FOR!!!) and everyone comes in pajamas and goes home with something of the sleep/spa/pampering variety – pillowcases, sleep masks, nail polish. Invites go out next week so we don’t have to do the PJ theme necessarily, but would like some vague activity during that last 45 mins. Even just games? There will be 15 8 year olds (lord help me).
For the last several days, my 16-month-old has been crying out randomly overnight and potentially seeming either uncomfortable or maybe scared (of the dark?). The only recent change we made was swapping his final formula bottle for cows milk – he had still been getting one bottle of formula before bed as part of a slow weaning process since he was premature. I know it can be an adjustment for their stomachs when that shift happens and it’s possible this is just gas but what else should I be thinking about? He seems totally fine during the day. No ear infection or obvious signs of teething. Could this be nightmares?
