We had some windows leak during recent heavy rains. Our cleaners are a husband and wife team, and the husband told me that our roof was probably leaking. Fortunately it turns out the windows just need new trim and caulk, which is a much more trivial thing. But it made me realize I have no idea how to know when our roof needs maintenance. I assume waiting until it leaks isn’t the best strategy?? But how do you know? I feel like I missed this part of adulting.

What is reasonable for private swimming lessons for a 3.5 yo? I booked private lessons at the Y. My kid loves the water and isn’t afraid at all. But the instructor didn’t look like he knew what to do with young children. I don’t expect her to fully swim by the end of the summer but I remember taking lessons around that age and learning to grab stuff underwater then get back to the surface, some basic swim moves, etc. Any pointers from people who have done this recently? We don’t have a pool or water access at home, but we do vacations by the lake regularly.

sometimes i miss the slow pace of life during covid. i feel like all we do now is rush from thing to thing, trip to trip. i know we can choose to opt out of some extracurriculars, or trips, but sometimes saying “no” is easier said than done and i’ve already started saying no to so many things. any tips on how to slow down and feel less overwhelmed?

I haven’t gone tent camping with my toddler yet. But when she was about 20 months, we spent a week in basic cabin (no running water in the cabin, but had electricity and an outhouse building about 20 feet away). It was the perfect middle ground for us. We got to be in nature, but without all the difficulties that tent camping brings.

Im looking forward to camping with my kids as they get older. Just throwing this out as an idea for anyone who finds the idea of camping a little overwhelming.

Does anyone camp with their little ones? My kids are 19 months and almost 4. I used to love outdoorsy type activities (husband does as well!) and am getting the itch to go on a short camping trip this spring. I would probably start with a short overnight trip.

My two and a half year old has out grown her little tricycle we go when she was one and her toy slide. I’m trying to decide what outdoor toys to get her for this summer. Do people recommend a big toddler tricycle with pedals (any brand recs)? A strider bike? If a stride bike, should I go with the 12 or 14 inches? Any other ideas for good outdoor toys?

Kiddo’s last day at his school – and we’ve invited some friends to the park for brownies and a hang. Fingers crossed the predicted showers hold off. He’ll go in to the new school for 2 hours tomorrow and start back properly after the Easter break.

Struggling with the mental load right now. Our schools just announced they are closed a random April day for voting, and I think it’s unlikely any camp offerings will pop up in the next two weeks. I have the flex job and am always the default person home on these days, but my big boss will be in town and we have a late meeting. I told my husband (who has access to all the same information I do!) that I have this work thing and he needs to either plan to work from home, or take the day off. He responds “ok, I’ll at least plan to leave work early.” NO WE CANNOT LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME ALONE ALL DAY. That is not what I asked! Really want to just drop the ball on this.
