Silk scarves are an early fall staple. They’re perfect for cool mornings and evenings and take up almost zero space in your bag.
This generously sized ombre version, made from sheer, 100% silk chiffon in Italy, works as both a scarf and a shawl. Wear it as a scarf on the way to work and as a shawl after hours.
This luxurious scarf features hand rolled hems and nontoxic vegetable dyes. It’ll be hard to choose from amongst the seven rich color options.
Elizabetta’s Sophia scarf is $125 at Nordstrom.

My newly 4 year old loves audio books. We’ve listened to every Thomas the Tank Engine book ever written, Frog and Toad, and Eric Carle. Any recommendations for longer stories or series? He has a good attention span for books, so I think he could handle some chapter length books. My preference is availability on Spotify or else Hoopla (which depends on my library).
Ladies, I really need super kindness and a strong gut check.
We have a nanny. Very experienced, highly recommended. Raised 5 kids of her own who are largely functioning adults, contributing members of society. Around 1pm I turned on my baby camera to recall a funny video of my 9 month old from overnight to show a coworker – I swear it was not nefarious / nanny-cam spying on my part (it’s never occurred on me to spy!!). The moment I opened it the nanny was yelling pretty harshly at my crying baby in the hallway outside the room. I couldn’t see what was happening but the camera picked it all up. It was absolutely yelling AT my baby, by name, for crying. It didn’t sit right at all.
Fast forward, I started pinging the camera more as the afternoon went on today. After baby’s (apparently brief) afternoon nap, nanny opened the curtains, and then grabbed my crying baby who was on her belly in the crib by the leg and arm and pretty aggressively flipped her to her back. Nanny was then talking to herself/the baby and is clearly very frustrated that the nap was short. I think the older kids (my 6 year old and her 2.5 year old granddaughter) may have been loud and woken the baby.
My husband saw the video and also thinks it was very, very aggressive how she flipped baby, and also how she went on to be very ranting/aggressive in her speech (ok, she was yelling..) at the baby, again by name, for waking up after a short nap.
I’m very confused as to what to do. Is this a one strike and done? Does confronting her, trying to talk through it and giving her a second chance make it worse (like will it continue or will it actually get better?)? I genuinely was not spying on her deliberately when I first opened the camera. When we get home from work and kids are in bed we’re going to review old footage as far back as we can and see if anything else looks off.
6 year old has said she never liked the babysitter. She never had a good reason why and I dismissed it. 6 year old doesn’t like change (who does) and adored her last nanny so I chalked it up to just being 6. I’m questioning everything and low key freaking out. I’m not afraid of a hard conversation with the nanny as her employer and caretaker of my children – it won’t be fun but it will absolutely have tog happen – but I just don’t even know what to do, what’s reasonable? I’m one part confused, one part distraught, one part understanding (kids are hard! I could not be a nanny!) and one part just so sad for my tiny little baby.
do you review graded HW and/or tests with your kids? i have twins in first grade and this is our first year with HW. our district has also decided that all kids grades k and up should receive weekly grades in an online portal (i think this is absurd, and that all the teachers, especially the K ones have much better things to do with their time). on the one hand, i dont want my 6 year olds obsessing about grades bc i do not care at all and one of them in particular is a bit of a perfectionist and i dont want her becoming obsessed, but on the other hand i do think there is value to learning from your mistakes. thoughts?
Please someone tell me not to rage quit my crappy part time job I’m using to keep my resume alive while my kids are young. I hate it so much, and I would really, really like to not deal with it anymore. We don’t need the money. I don’t like my career field. Why am I doing this to myself?
Argh, I posted on the main page, but I’m cross posting here bc I think I need to vent more :( I was about a year into regularly jogging and feeling really fit for the first time in my life. I had a bad fall, and I’m off running for the foreseeable future (possibly longer if surgery is needed). It’s been about a month since I last ran, and ugh, I just really miss running and feeling stronger and toned. What can I do to keep up feeling fit? I can’t bounce, so something like orange theory with cardio is probably out, and swimming is out bc I do not have access to a pool. I’m struggling with not only feeling like I’m losing the great mental health outlet of a good cardio workout, but feeling strong and proud of my toned body for the first time in my life. :(
Podcast recommendation thread? I’m late to the trend and just getting started with

Moms of girls, how old were they when you started potty training and when they were successfully potty trained?
I have a 21 month old and we did Oh Crap this weekend and would say it was moderately successful. We’re going to keep trying now that she’s back in daycare, though I keep hearing from my friends that she’s so young to do this, she’s not ready, etc. None of my mom friends are potty training yet and I see 3 year olds wearing diapers frequently now. It’s funny because even the most competitive mom in my mom group isn’t even trying potty training, she says she’ll start when her DD is 2.5.
I understand this milestone has moved back a lot in a generation or two and it seems the reasons are moms working and diapers being more absorbent. My mom, who worked full time and had me with a nanny, is on me to get DD potty trained. I keep hearing girls need to be potty trained by 2 and while I understand *I* was potty trained by 2, I wonder how realistic or common this is nowadays? I would very much like to be done with diapers but don’t want my daughter crying every day because she’s trying to pee and can’t time it yet.
Any recommendations for reducing stress incontinence during pregnancy? I’m just getting over a cold but the peeing while sneezing/coughing has been by far the worst part!
Any recommendations for book series for my niece’s birthday? She’s turning 13 and currently reading twilight. Most of the popular series I’ve seen lately seem a little too violent or racy for a 13yo.
