Make My Life Easier Thursday: Sleepbuds

I am married to a person who snores. Not always, and not necessarily throughout the night, but when it happens, it’s nearly impossible for me to fall asleep. I know I can use those foam earplugs, but they make me feel just a little too cut off from the world — and from my toddler who may wake up at any given moment and start wandering around. I definitely don’t want to sleep through that.
So what would make my life easier? Being able to fall asleep more easily, with or without my husband’s snoring.
Enter the Ozlo Sleepbuds, wireless earbuds designed specifically for sleeping. They are lightweight, soft, and comfortable, and they stay in all night, even when I sleep on my side. Through the paired app I’m able to access dozens of “white noise” options, and they have this feature that will turn that noise on once it’s been detected that you have fallen asleep. This means that you can listen to an audiobook or podcast (or, in my case, a sleepcast from Headspace) without waking up later to find yourself totally lost and having to figure out the last thing you remember.
And while the Ozlos give me just enough noise to help me fall asleep, they don’t block out everything — so when my son decides to open his door at 3:30 a.m. and go for a stroll around the apartment, I’ll hear that too.
They do come in at a pretty high price point, but Ozlo has a rental program that lets you try them out. I started with that but realized fairly quickly that I needed these in my life. I do not regret this purchase at all.
Ozlo Sleepbuds are available at the Ozlo website for $349 full price (currently on sale for $314) and also available at Amazon.

I have tried a couple different brands of sleep buds. They are so uncomfortable and don’t really block out the snoring. A “sleep divorce” has done wonders for my sleep and my marriage.
I’m set to do my first IUI cycle in September! Yay! I am so excited.
Today’s nagging thought – I have an 18 day backpacking trip (my last one for a very long time if all goes well – bittersweet!) in August. I am getting really worried about getting enough calories while hiking with regard to having an IUI with injections starting 1.5 weeks after coming home. Is that …silly? I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize that chance (and waste the thousands of dollars, LOL).
Find a way to carry more calories (easier said than done on a backpacking trip)? Delay the cycle? …drop the trip?
My husband is out of town this week for work, and I am full time working from my office while my two kids (freshly 3 & 5.5) are in daycare. Husband travels frequently for work… this week it feels like we’ve entered a new era! The boys have been playing together in the morning and at night. Nobody is melting down and whining waiting for breakfast and dinner to be made. They get in little disagreements but I’ve only had to go into big serious angry mom mode once or twice. Sending love to everyone who is in a different phase, especially those who are in the earlier stages where kids are melting down the minute you get home and dinner prep needs to be 5 minutes flat or risk your sanity. That was me last year and I’m amazed that it’s not like that anymore.
I have posted in the past about some sadness about our decision to stop at two kids, which is probably best for our careers and our finances, but my husband and I both grew up in bigger families and still have some sadness about the idea of not having a third. When everything is so easy as it’s been this week, I think to myself “we could totally handle a third!!” But then I remember that by stopping at two, we are hoping to maintain this balance of peace and fun and take ourselves on some great family adventures while they grow up. Please tell me that I’m right, and that the ease isn’t a sign that we are actually supposed to have another!!
What times do you drop off and pick up at daycare? At 7:30 and 5:15 it feels like my kids are some of the earliest there and last to leave. The daycare is open from 7-5:30.
I posted yesterday but I think it got stuck in mod.
I am the anxious mom who posted about my 4.5 year old needing prism glasses for an eye turn based on the ped optometrist, who we really like and trust. The plan has been to get the glasses made, have kid wear them, and then check in after a few weeks of wear to see if we need to re-adjust or take other steps. The ped optometrist did flag surgery as an option after trying other things, and mentioned the glasses would be a longer road to correct his eye turn.
We saw a ped opthamologist yesterday (she was also great) who recommended we go straight to surgery. She would do the procedure. It’s a outpatient procedure, kid would go under (which I don’t love but but we just went through it for the dental work, so I’m not shell shocked). Kid would have to be out of school for ~1 week, maybe less, but at least a few days, and stay away from certain stuff (e.g. pools) for ~2 weeks. All of this we can figure out/manage.
After talking to the ped optometrist and DH, we’re going to go for the procedure. There’s a chance kiddo may need a follow-up surgery in the future, but the ped optometrist is pretty confident he’ll respond well to the procedure given the workups she’s done. Both doctors have said that he shouldn’t wear the glasses if we’re getting the procedure done.
WWYD? Any downsides I’m missing/any upsides?
Doctor’s staff re-prescribed an antibiotic for my son’s ear infection even though the culture showed that his strain of bacteria is resistant to it. I say staff because I never interacted with doc, only two different nurses. I had to point out the resistance via portal message and the nurse’s response was “thanks for catching that!” And then they prescribed something different.
I’m pretty peeved that the medical staff missed this. This is at a world-renowned children’s hospital. Would you mention this at the next visit with this doctor?
For what it’s worth, it’s a staph infection that spread to his skin so kind of a serious bug.
