I’m a huge fan of M.M.LaFleur’s OrigamiTech fabric — it’s an easy-care miracle fabric that looks professional and polished, yet stays wrinkle free and washes easily.
The brand’s Rina pants are the ideal showcase for this fabric. This pair’s flowy and drapey cut is balanced by a high waist and pressed front seams. The extra hem allowance makes them tall-friendly, while a quick trip to the tailor will make them petite-friendly for someone like me.
The Rina Sculptural Pant is $279 and comes in six colors (two are on sale, lucky sizes only). They’re available in sizes 00-20. There’s also a matching suit jacket.

Lately my husband and I have been feeling a little disconnected. We have a toddler and have had a lot of stressors hit recently with work and our life plans. I feel like the obvious answer is to schedule a regular date night, but it’s really difficult to schedule because of the shift work my husband does and I don’t like spending an entire day without spending any time with my son, let alone the challenge of finding a babysitter at all. I know this has to be a common dilemma, so I’m putting this out there to see what other people have come up with.
I’m curious what folks think of this dilemma. This will probably be a novel, sorry.
My daughter started kindergarten after Labor Day. She had a rocky start and difficulty sitting still for as long as they want her too. Not surprising – she’s a high energy, wiggly kid. I had a meeting with the teacher that was productive and friendly. But then last Friday my mom picked up my daughter and the teacher unloaded on her and said a bunch of things including that my daughter manipulates adults. (Not a trait I’ve noticed in her at all and also a truly wild thing to say about a 5-year-old). My mom was so appalled by the conversation she was googling private schools on the way home.
I had a not very useful talk with the school counselor who said the teacher had high standards but that she told her things were getting better this week so everything was fine. I’ve heard bad things about the other kindergarten teacher so am very reluctant to ask for a switch.
But there’s a charter school downtown with openings and a good reputation that seems like potentially a very good fit. It’s more aligned with my educational philosophy for young kids – they do project based learning in addition to basic literacy and math whereas the public school is mostly worksheets. The catch is it’s a 25 minute drive (near the office I never work at so I could start working there) whereas the public school is across the street.
WWYD?
Do you donate used baby items that need to be sterilized, like bottles, nipples, teethers? I know to donate toys and clothes but I’m not sure if nipples etc. are more like medical waste or if they’re donatable. If they can be donated, is there anywhere in particular to take them? Maybe a women’s shelter?
Talk to me about very long, international travel with a baby. Baby will be about 18 months when a close family member gets married in India. I’d like to attend the wedding, which will be 5 days, and do the golden triangle. We’d plan to take 2-2.5 weeks.
DH is concerned about traveling so far with the baby; aside from the travel itself, what will baby eat, what if baby gets sick. I don’t really share those exact concerns; we’ll be in major cities, people in India have babies, they eat and get medical care. I’m more concerned about navigating crowds. I’m not sure how mobile baby will be at that point; some of our friends’ ~1.5 year olds are zooming about while others aren’t really on-the-go. We have some time to decide, but we have a lot of talking to do if we’re both going to be comfortable. Thoughts on travel itself and/or how to discuss with DH? Thanks all!
Where do you get your advice on skincare? I am definitely seeing changes in my skin now that I’m in my 40s, but nothing I would take to a dermatologist (but maybe I should?). I feel like everything I find online is sponsored, or hawked by a 20-something. What is a reputable source for products that work? I’m currently using a high-quality vitamin c serum and a low-quality drugstore retinol cream and need a little more guidance on what to buy.
any suggestions for matching mother-daughter dresses for fall/winter? Everything I’m finding is very frilly or super cheap looking. Normally I’d be meh on this but my kindergartener LOVES matching, so I’m making an effort to find something (we already have matching sundresses, but it’s getting chilly, and Easter dresses that are just.so.frilly that I can’t really handle wearing mine lol). would prefer not to look like a milkmaid or an easter egg…. thank you!!
Oy, I can’t admit this in real life – but OMG we have a mouse problem :( I have lived in places where there has definitely been evidence of mice in like a basement or a crawl space, but we’ve called a pest company/put down traps and the problem is resolved fairly quickly. But they are in my kitchen!!! And not afraid of us!!!! Ove the last week, I have seen a mouse run across the floor twice, and last night, I saw one pop its head out of a hole in the wall as I was sitting on the couch!!! OMG!!!!! We’ve had our pest control out three times to set traps in the kitchen, but we haven’t caught anything yet. We’ve done all the obvious things — never any food or dishes out, ever, wiping/disinfecting all counters and floors at night, and our kitchen is pristine – but they are still behind the cabinets, I guess? Ugh, I hate it, it’s really stressful, as they are where my family hangs out, and I’m wondering if I’ll ever feel chill just sitting in my kitchen, so I’d love any stories of whether you had a similar issue and it resolved? Or am I burning down the house or moving at this point?
I need to get some winter items for my baby who will be about 14 months by the time we go on a ski trip. He already has a snowsuit, but any recommendations for mittens from a brand that has already phased out PFAS in the waterproofing? Also looking for a good hat and some underlayers, but he runs super hot so don’t need to go too crazy.
My 7yo and 9yo have been saving their allowance for nine months and now want to pool it to buy a hoverboard. I did not even know hoverboards existed until they told me their plan yesterday. Are they safe (assuming kids are wearing protective gear)? Is there any particular model that is better? Tell me all your hoverboard opinions, please!
