Maternity Monday: Ribbed Crew-Neck Midi Dress

While maternity clothing has come a long way, sometimes the available options just aren’t for you. There’s actually a lot of clothes that aren’t marketed as “maternity” that can accommodate your changing body. For example, this stretchy ribbed dress works both before and during pregnancy.
Made from a cotton blend with a touch of cashmere for softness, this midi sweater dress from Quince stretches as your bump grows. The fabric is light and breathable, and the self-tie belt adjusts to fit your waistline.
The dress is $69.90 and comes in sizes XS-XL. (When I was expecting and buying non-maternity clothes, I usually wore either my regular size or one size up.) It’s available in seven colors.

I really try not to think of gender norms with kids, because so much is kid specific…but sometimes they are real! My dog walker’s 4.5 is off school, so she sat with me while I worked/Mom walked dog. She was just so….calm, chill, and rule-following…compared to my almost 5 year old boy!
I mean we still did like 10 things in 30 minutes because….kids. In the time her mom walked the dog she had a snack, drew a picture, watched one episode of Bluey, played with slime….
Speaking of audiobooks, what would be a good listen for a 4.25 year old on a long roadtrip? He doesn’t like anything scary.
Is anyone here a mom in a wlw relationship?
Visiting here from the other page – I’m not a mom at this time. I’m in my early 30s and just came out and the only thing I’m kind of nervous about is obviously conceiving/having a child in a lesbian relationship is quite different than in a straight relationship. Plus, thanks to decades of thinking I was straight , I’m kind of struggling to visualize family life with two moms and kids.
If anyone just has some happy stories to share, I’d love to hear them!
Recommendations for (very) first watches? My almost-six-year-old is very interested, and her almost-four-year-old siblings are vicariously interested in whatever she’s into. My preference would be analog over digital, but I’m seeing preschooler watches with colors/animals instead of numbers; any experience with those? Or other recs for traditional kids watches? TIA!
Do you limit how much your kids listen to audiobooks? My kiddo has gotten really into them, and we’ve got unlimited choices through the library. She wants to listen whenever we are in the car and sometimes for hours after school. Seems less harmful than TV and a harmless activity, but I admit to having a bit of silly pretension that reading real books is better than listening to audiobooks.
I’m bringing appetizers to a couple different kid friendly events happening in the next month or so… any suggestions for appetizers I can buy at Costco that will be crowd-pleasing for all ages but especially the younger ones?
Accidentally posted to last week’s thread this morning. Need more coffee to get through this week of parenting, work deadlines, and holiday prep.
Why are school comms so notoriously bad? Why is everything buried in PPT?
School has just sent out the weirdest PPT with all the school special events (nativity, singing, etc) and the school uniform rules in the run-up to Christmas. Apparently, you can wear Christmas jumpers over your normal uniform the week up to Christmas, unless it’s your Christmas party day, where you add a Santa hat or a festive headband. These rules are outlined on page 8 of the PowerPoint. This will definitely trigger confusion and dozens of unnecessary WhatsApp queries…
What is a good light perfume for a tween girl? The bath and body works sprays are so sticky sweet, but the perfume my mom bought for my daughter is so strong. Any recs for something in between?
Resources for starting solids? Our pediatrician gave us the green light but their only specific suggestion was oatmeal. Their handout was basically a list of stuff to NOT feed baby (do people really need to be told to not give gum to someone who doesn’t have teeth yet?). We know to start with single ingredient things and only introduce something new every 3 days.
We could use more specifics. The first few things to give, and eventually ideas for making our own food. We’d like to stick to real foods. I’m not really inclined to use canned baby food or, generally, to feed my baby something I wouldn’t want to eat (not that I really want to drink my own breast milk but you know what I mean). We already cook every day, so I don’t think it’d be that big a deal to boil and mash up some carrots while we’re roasting carrots for ourselves, for example.
Also: any baby food cookbooks that would make a good Christmas gift for dad? Apparently he got one for me, so hopefully we don’t give each other the same book!
Help! My kindergartener is going through some sort of sleep regression. Can’t go to sleep without someone in bed next to him, wakes up and calls out every five minutes for an hour around 3, then wakes up too early around 5:30 and can’t lay quietly. It’s miserable. I’ve been thinking he’s just going through a big developmental leap like learning to read. Any other causes I should investigate? Any potential solutions? I’m considering putting a cot in our room, but I suspect he’ll just whine that he wants to be in bed with us. We do not like co-sleeping–our bed is small enough with just me and big DH!
My children are happiest with everyone who isn’t me.
I have two year old twins and a four year old and they are perfect angels for everyone…except me. The twins fight me on everything in the morning- getting dressed, brushing teeth, washing faces. My husband? Can do it without a problem. (Which is annoying because he’s at work before they wake up 5/7 days a week).
When the twins sit on my lap they try to push each other off. For everyone else? They sit happily and calmly.
I pick them up from daycare and they immediately start whining and crying. I literally JUST saw them playing happily in their classroom but we get to the car and all hell breaks loose.
It’s definitely more pronounced with the twins than with our older one, though she has her moments too.
To be fair, we have a lot of great times, but it’s very obvious that their behavior with me is much different than with everyone else. I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong and how I became their least favorite person.
My husband’s parents “gifted” us a giant leg lamp like Christmas story, and for the longest time we lived in small apts/townhouses but now we have a bigger house with storage so we have it again and I’m unreasonably annoyed. I don’t want to display it, I don’t want to store it, and while they are generally great it drives me a bit insane how they decided we “need” something, and then give it to us, without any question about taste, storage, or you know, if we actually need it.
