The Motherlode article re Girl Scouts is interesting. But as a Canadian Girl Guide leader and as a lawyer, I have to say that risk management is very important in youth-serving organizations these days. Would you really want to give your child over to an organization without stated risk management policies and procedures? Admittedly the US forms sound like they go a little overboard, but the US also has a very strong culture of litigation. The GSUSA organization needs to be able to cover itself in the event of any harm or potential harm to a child. So I urge any of you who are thinking of becoming involved with Girl Scouts or Girl Guides to think of all the benefits of being a member, rather than negative comments such as the Motherlode piece, and be thankful that the organization takes risk management so seriously.

Also, linking off that article I found another really interesting article about a little girl putting a head scarf on her mom, and people’s reactions when the mom posted a photo on her Facebook. I really enjoyed it. Link to follow.

I thought that Travelling While Pregnant faq to be a little “duh”, but I guess it’s good to be reminded of all those things.

Curious how many of you have traveled extensively while pregnant – I usually go to Europe every 2-3 months and travel domestically 1x month or so for work. I don’t expect this to die down at all in the next year when I hope to be pregnant.

One thing I’ve joked about is asking if I can fly business to Europe while I’m pregnant – is this a really ridiculous request? Our corporate policy is only business class for 7 hr flights or longer (conveniently just longer than a transatlantic flight…) but I really can’t imagine my pregnant self squeezing into an economy seat for an overnight flight!! The swelling in the legs alone… yeouch. (I’m already a big fan of compression stockings FYI) However, I realize some people might say that it’s my choice to be pregnant, shouldn’t get special (expensive) treatment, etc.
