Boden really knocks it out of the park when it comes to fun prints, and this top is no exception. This green polka-dot blouse would bring a dash of whimsy to an otherwise-boring suit without being too over-the-top. I would also love to see it paired with a midi skirt and some “office sneakers” for a more casual workplace.
The blouse is $40.99, marked down from $82, at Boden and comes in sizes 2-14. (A couple of sizes are sold out, unfortunately, but they’re available in a pink/green print.)

Hand foot and mouth disease has entered the villa! Ugh. We canceled all of our 4th of July plans and we will stay far away from everyone. My son is sick and we are watching my daughter closely hoping she doesn’t come down with it as well. Hope everyone stays healthy this holiday weekend!
anyone feel like they’re the only mom they know with a full time professional job? It’s so lonely in the summer when everyone is off but me. why did I make the choices I made?
Do you have a limit, formally or informally, to how much vacation time you can use in a given time period? We get 25 days of vacation per year. Sick leave is separate and I don’t use that much (maybe 3-5 days per year). Other than a week at spring break, I usually take all my vacation during my kids ~2 month summer break, so it works out to be 4-5 weeks off in about a 2 month period. Last year people grumbled about it. This year the grumbling is louder and more formal and it seems like next year they may not let me do this. I’m kind of annoyed because there’s no written policy against it and I feel like I’ve accrued the time and should be able to take it. Fwiw, I’m in an individual contributor role, nothing I do is time-sensitive and when I’m out my projects just sit there and no one touches them until I’m back so it’s not creating more work for colleagues/bosses.
My four year old frequently complains that his stomach hurts in the morning before school. He had bad reflux until age 2 that was medicated with prescription pepcid. He generally has a sensitive stomach (frequent car sickness, e.g.) but also complains of a stomach ache when he’s actually experiencing anxiety (like about a new activity at preschool). Anyone else have a kiddo like this who has insight? Any questions that I should ask our pediatrician? She’s proactive and attentive, but in the past, has waved off stomach aches as a common kid complaint without known causes. He’s upset most mornings of the week, though, so I think it’s more than just anxiety and he’s insistent it isn’t hunger.
A year ago I left a toxic job, which I should have quit 1-2 years sooner and which undermined my professional reputation in the field, for a position created for me at a startup org that had been around for a few years, with colleagues I’ve known for more than a decade. The honeymoon is over and I’m becoming increasingly annoyed with the fact that the org suffers from an extreme case of founder’s syndrome. I’m used to managing millions of dollars of projects on my own with virtually no support or oversight, representing my employer publicly, and managing my own clients and the scope of work. The leadership position that would have been logical for someone with my background and experience to have at this org was already filled, so they created an individual contributor position for me reporting to that person. My immediate supervisor (who is in the position I should have had) is fine, but the founder/director of the org is a micromanager who rewrites every deliverable until it’s unrecognizable, refuses to specify goals or scope, prohibits me from speaking in meetings, chastises me for brainstorming with my supervisor or colleagues, randomly adds and redefines components of projects on a whim, fails to communicate expectations and then expects them to be fulfilled, etc. It’s gotten to the point where I can barely do my job because I spend so much time changing direction or managing the founder’s feelings. I’m miserable–I feel incompetent and defensive all the time, even though I am supposed to be a leading expert in the field. Am I overreacting to the micromanagement because of my previous experience, and this is just the way it is in most organizations? Or is this objectively unreasonable?
My field is very small, and the only way to get another job is to have one created for me. Getting out will take a couple of years of retooling skills to shift to another field, and probably will require waiting until the job market improves substantially.
different anxious mom here – i have been on an SSRI for a while at a fairly high does and feel like it isn’t doing anything anymore. i am not currently in therapy, but have been in the past. can i think about things to talk about in therapy, sure. definitely have some unresolved family stuff, stuff with kids, aging parents, etc…..but there is nothing super big happening right now and i’ve been feeling this way for 6+ months and that the meds just aren’t working like they used to. my PCP has offered to try me on other meds, which would obviously be the least expensive option, or I could go see a psychiatrist, though like none of them take insurance and the initial consult is $600 and then half that for ongoing med management and once it’s managed I could probably get my PCP to prescribe again. thoughts? do i also pursue therapy? i just feel kind of on edge/anxious/more tearful than usual.
I’m moving from a small company to a job at a huge global company. My position will be fully remote (the people on my team are also remote). Do you have any advice on how I should reset my expectations in working for a much larger company? I realize there is more bureaucracy and more specialized roles but any other insights are appreciated. I want to start off on the right foot.
Anxious mom here. Probably to no one’s shock I scored in the “severe anxiety” range on the screener, and my doctor was like “Why aren’t we taking the meds?!”. I will start them tomorrow AM.
I knew I was anxious, but had no idea it was this bad.
Thank you all, as always, for your collective internet friendship. I have vacation and then a birthday in a few weeks and am hopeful I will be in a better place by then.
I know this has been asked a million times, but we are struggling with potty training. DD will be 3 in September. We have introduced the potty, read the books, she totally gets the concept. Did a 3 day weekend last weekend but it’s… not really clicking. We actually don’t have that many accidents, but she’s not really going on the potty, she is either waiting for her diaper (nap time and sleep time) or holding it in until she can’t anymore. She will happily sit on the potty but has only gone when I keep her there for a really long time. I think she’s a little stressed and not relaxing enough to do it. Any advice? She does not want to go back to diapers and is really intent on wearing big girl undies.
There was a post yesterday about Yoto vs Tonie for kids and comments about recording content from loved ones. My MIL lives abroad and due to a long story I won’t get into here, probably won’t ever meet her grandson. We would LOVE to have her record herself reading him a book in her native language, but there’s no way we can get her a brand-specific device to record directly. With either the Tonie or Yoto, could she send us a simple voice memo from a smartphone and then we (easily) get it onto a figure or card? It seems like that must be the idea, but how’s the audio quality? Can you add more than one clip (reading a book and then telling a story, for example) to each figure or card?
