Anyone have exciting plans for the holiday weekend? I have the day off, but it’s looking like it’s going to be bitterly cold in my part of the Midwest (sub-zero without factoring in windchill) so really not enjoyable to do anything outside. Of course we have the usual indoor standbys like movies, baking, board/card games, and puzzles, and we might go to a trampoline park or our gym which has an indoor pool, but was wondering what everyone else is doing.
even with all of the vacations we have planned (a week long trip next week, week for spring break and ~3 weeks over summer), i will have 8 extra PTO days I have to use by August 14. what are some times/ways you’ve used your PTO to make your life better/easier? what is annoying is we dont get separate sick days so i always try to save up PTO just in case, but dont want to lose what won’t roll over
My son is turning 9 and interested in having a nerf gun fight as part of his birthday party. What’s the parent consensus on nerf guns/are other parents going to be mad if I allow? He has some nerf guns that he’s received as gifts (they’re actually minecraft crossbows not guns but same function).
How would you handle this? A long time friend was caught spreading lies about me. I had nothing to do with exposing them and considered them a good friend. I don’t know what motivated this person. At the time they refused to discuss the issue at all and we stopped speaking generally.
A couple of times in the last few months they have reached out in what seemed like a half hearted way, and once apologized vaguely for things that may have happened in the past. I always respond to their texts in the same vague tone that they are using. In person at events they continue to ignore me completely.
What do they want from me? I am happy to keep my distance and not have a friendship (I don’t think I can trust them again) but the cycle of random outreaches and then ignoring me continues and is confusing to me.
Thanks for any insight.
Is it too late to send holiday (New Year’s) cards? We’re Jewish and always send New Year’s cards, but usually in late December or the first week of January. Our cards were supposed to arrive at the tail end of winter break, but due to a shipping delay they didn’t come until last Monday and with the back-to-school/work craziness, I didn’t get them addressed until yesterday. Is it weird to send them at this point?
just a vent. i have twin girls who wanted to play softball this spring. i was hoping it would be a nice community building opportunity as we are transplants and i’ve really been trying to build community. well they are on a team with only one other kid from their school and their practice is from 6:30-7:30pm.
They are usually in bed at 7:15! I feel like this is not going to go well in particular bc of the late practice time. They are 6 years old and school starts at 7:30am. It’s a long season. Starts next week and goes until May. I’m trying to keep a positive attitude for the kids, but I’m pretty bummed about the whole thing
Husband complaint- he is usually great, shares the burden equally, etc, but I had to talk to him last night about his poor personal email management- he has missed important information in emails, clearly isn’t reading the school emails, can’t find emails when we need them (like tickets). The excuses he gave were really weak, and it’s just like, I know you wouldn’t do this at work! Why are you inflicting this nonsense on our family??? Bottom line, I don’t want to feel like I have to get every single important email because I can’t trust him to handle his. I think the message hit home but I’m annoyed I had to deliver it at all.
Can I get anecdata on how toilet training went for other families? My 2.75 year old was doing great for 2 weeks straight – self-identifying when to go and getting herself there, happily trying when we suggested it – and then it seemed like she decided she didn’t want to be toilet trained. While she’ll still try at school when prompted by teachers, at home she resists using the toilet and has many accidents. We didn’t change anything about the set-up during this period. Is this normal? We’re torn about what to do (if anything): would hate to lose the skills she clearly has but also don’t want to push something if for some reason she’s not ready for it right now, even if she was previously.
