I randomly came across this toy from Skip Hop on Nordstrom’s website this week, and I think it’s adorable. (My kid is 15, so I can’t even remember if the company made toys back when he was a baby. Is that new? I always thought of Skip Hop as only making diaper bags and such.)
The world was clearly in need of a little grinning rabbit DJ, and this toy delivers. My kids have discovered our Calvin and Hobbes books, and it is so fun to see. I remember just getting totally absorbed in them as a kid and they are too! And honestly the humor and themes really holds up.
I swear my kids make 4x the dirty laundry in the summer. I am drowning in it!
I need a gut check, I think. My nearly 5 YO is finishing up his second year of full-day preschool, and starts kindergarten next month. For the past month, he’s been whining, crying, saying his stomach hurts, and generally being miserable before preschool. He’s a very sensitive kid (e.g., he went through a period of trying to refuse to go to school a few months ago because he couldn’t keep up running with his best friend in a game of tag) but we can usually suss out what’s going on to cause the anxiety about going to school. We haven’t figured out a cause this time. Sometimes he says he doesn’t like being outside for a long time in the afternoons, so I have switched my work to pick him up early three days a week so the days aren’t as long. We’re totally exhausted trying to make the mornings fun, or at least, somewhat pleasant. And we’re exhausted trying to squeeze in early pickups.
Are these bouts of hating school normal? I’m totally dreading kindergarten. I’m also at a loss about how he will handle aftercare.
Just venting- we are currently visiting my in-laws at their beach house and the AC broke. It’s not the most comfortable to be upstairs sleeping but there are fans and the downstairs is fine. My much younger BIL and fiancé leave in a nearby city and told our kids they’d come back to see them this weekend (we live very far away, don’t know when we will see them next) and take them to an activity for which DH and I purchased the tickets at the time BIL and his fiancé preferred…but now they are likely not coming bc of the AC. I generally love BIL and fiance, but they also said they’d come to visit us this past spring and didn’t. The kids are going to be SO disappointed and mad. So instead of enjoying a bit of a break tomorrow while my kids are at their activity, I’ll be dealing with my very grumpy children. I shouldn’t be shocked as my in-laws aren’t exactly known for inconveniencing themselves for other people and i guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
How long did you room share with your baby, if at all? Mine is nine months now and we’re considering stopping, but it’s surprisingly bittersweet. We’ve always done sleep shifts with him and it seems like it might be time to get us out of there so we don’t wake up with every little thump, but why is it sad?!
