Woven bags are not just for summer. For a cold-weather version, consider & Other Stories’ large braided tote.
Woven from supple leather, this roomy, structured tote has space for a tablet, water bottle, glasses, and other essentials. To keep everything secure, this cotton-lined tote has a hidden magnetic closure along with an inner pocket for smaller items.
I’m drawn to the khaki green, but it also comes in black.
This braided tote is $329.

Anyone else have kids who talk constantly? My 7 year old has always been an extroverted chatterbox but it’s increased a lot in the last few months and now it feels like she’s talking almost literally 100% of the time she’s awake. It’s really hard for my introverted self, especially when I’m solo parenting and don’t get a break from her, but I feel guilty being annoyed by it because I know in a few years she won’t want to talk to me and I’ll be nostalgic for this time. And I know this element of her personality is a great thing in many ways – she has far more friends than I ever did and has never met a stranger, which will serve her well in life. But I’m so talked out and I feel like it’s impacting my work and my marriage because when she’s at school or asleep I just want to hide in a dark room and not have anyone talk to me.
To what degree do you feel the obligation to tell everyone you’ve been in contact with when you find lice in your family? Obviously you would not knowingly pass it onto someone else after you find out, but do you contact trace for everyone you were with before you found out?
We have a housekeeper/house manager we love. We currently want to add another evening (5-8pm) to her schedule. Evenings she’s with us, she typically handles warming up/plating dinner, all kitchen clean-up, any prep for the next day (e.g. chopping veg, packing kid lunch), runs any errands, and serves as essentially a second pair of hands with our kids (DH is often on travel or not yet home from work during a chunk of these hours).
What else could we add to her responsibilities? I haven’t asked her to actually make dinner, but I could. We kind of have a set template for our meals during the week. We already get grocery delivery, and she already does laundry and general tidying on another day. Not interested in getting her involved with kid pick up at this time.
This snow has me thinking about Spring break and warmer weather. Unfortunately prices are higher as it is Easter week but we’d still like to go somewhere for 5 days. Ideally a direct flight from DC or driving less than 6 hours. Inside or outside the US. Two kids 5&8. We like cities or beaches but like to have one home base the whole time. Any favorite trips? We had an awesome trip to New Orleans last year and really appreciated the recommendations from this group.
My pelvic floor is so weak, I leak whenever I cough or sneeze. I’ve had to wear Poise pads or Depends for several weeks while I get over a cold. How do you strengthen your pelvic floor? My dr recommended levels, which I haven’t been consistent about but I guess I have to start because this is miserable.
I was recently in Chicago for winter break & we had an amazing time at the Chicago Children’s Museum. I love to plan vacations where there are great museums/ aquariums in the area, so was curious what areas people would recommend? We’ve been to Please Touch in Philly (liked it a lot), DC Children’s Museum (it’s fine & we live here), Norfolk Children’s Museum (very engaging), Minnesota Children’s Museum (also good) and for Aquariums (North Carolina in Outer Banks, Camden in South Jersey & Tampa)
