An open bottle of nail polish smudge fix

As diligent as I am at waiting for my manicure to dry, it often smudges before I get home from the salon.

Londontown’s Instant Smudge Fix smooths smudges, minor nicks, and chips. Simply brush a thin layer over the nail, let dry for 10 seconds, and follow with your favorite top coat. Your rescued manicure will look as good as new!

Kur Instant Smudge Fix is $20 at Nordstrom.

Are you going to participate in the National Strike tomorrow? No work, no school, no shopping?

i posted yesterday about rescheduling a party due to weather to super bowl sunday – sent out new invites and most of the kids can still attend, and some who couldn’t attend this weekend, are now able to attend

I’m itching for a symbolic new haircut after some life changes, but I don’t really know where to even look. I don’t have a stylist, I’ve just been going to great clips for occasional trims. I’ve got very fine straight hair, but plenty of it. I still have toddlers so it needs to be mom hair that I can get away without styling. Got any ideas for me?

If my kid wants to invite both Friend A and Friend B to her birthday party, it’s ok to ask Friend A’s mom for Friend B’s parents’ contact info, right?

Added context – Friend A is my daughter’s longtime best friend and her mom and I are very friendly and text regularly about the kids and logistical stuff, though we’re not friends independent of the kids. Friend B is Friend A’s best friend in her class this year and apparently the three of them have become a tightknit trio (yes I know 3 is a problematic number, but so far no drama!). B has never been in class with my daughter and I’ve never met her parents. They’re in second grade.

Might insurance cover a tummy tuck that’s “needed” because of a c-section scar? I have a flab of belly skin hanging over my scar. It’s painful. I also still experience a pulling sensation and some numbness around the scar. I’ve mobilized it a lot and I’ve worked with a physical therapist but it doesn’t seem to be getting better. It’s only been 6 months but I’m starting to think about my options if this doesn’t improve in another 6-12 months.

I think I need to be told it’s okay? I’ve been in a job I like for 7 years, in the same field for 15. Government so super stable but my workload is unmanageable. I make okay money with a pension which is solid but honestly not as lucrative and without a lot of future growth options and husband has a well paying low demand job which works for the family.

A casual ‘let me know if you guys are ever hiring’ is actually going somewhere if I want it. I’m already available 364 days/year and logging online every night… why wouldn’t I do it for more money, right?

Has anyone donated leftover IVF embryos to a family or received donor embryos? I have two embryos being stored and am starting the process of deciding what to do with them (just me – I’m a single mom by choice). Donation appeals to me because I feel like I’d like to give them a chance and because I’d like to help someone struggling with infertility. But I’m trying to sit with what it would feel like to have my biological child raised by someone else. Any been there done that?

Favorite items from Costco for Super Bowl? We decided to host last min and there will be a mix of adults 15-20 and little kids under 6 (probably 10). I am hoping to avoid catering everything. I don’t mind reheating things in the oven.

Any brilliant ideas for free or very low cost Girl Scout outings for 2nd/3rd graders? We have extreme cold weather here, so being outside is not really an option. We don’t have our normal school meeting space next week but I don’t want to spend a lot of money on an outing because they have a few things they’ve voted on and we need to save the funds for those things (none of which can happen next week, unfortunately). We could get probably get a meeting space at the public library, but having a normal meeting seems like a waste of the tr*nsportation provided by parent volunteers.

I just noticed two small bruises, one on each calf at about the same height, on my toddler. I assume he got them at daycare leaning over the sandbox or similar, but no one there mentioned anything and I’m guessing they didn’t notice. Should I raise it with them? I’m not concerned but I had heard from a friend that if daycare sees an unexplained bruise, they might think it was the parent.

Going on day 3 of being under an “essential water use only” order — after being snowed in for 4 days, the house is a complete dumpster and we can’t do laundry or run the dishwasher, and we missed our trash pickup so we’re overflowing with stuff to throw out. I feel so gross! Can’t wait for this winter to be over.

When you are sick, how much slack does your partner pick up? I have been in bed with a head cold for the last two days, so DH has covered almost everything with DS (5) – getting ready for preschool, breakfast, pack lunch, drop off, pickup, making a simple dinner for DS, bathtime, and bedtime. I helped a bit in the beginning and tail end of the two days. I appreciate DH taking charge of these tasks that we would normally do together, but the other daily chores that I usually do are then neglected. The sink is overflowing with dishes, the trash is overflowing, dinner from the night before is still on the kitchen table…everything is generally a mess. DH usually has blinders regarding that stuff, whether I am sick or not. DH has had COVID three times, and has had the flu and other illnesses a few times, and each time he quarantines in the guest bedroom and I have to cover everything for a week. Not only do I try to stay on top of everything and solo parent the best I can, but I also try to support DH in recovery by leaving water bottles, medicine, etc outside his door and ordering his favorite comfort foods for takeout. When I am sick DH does not offer to make me tea or a meal, or do anything for me apart from solo parenting. Should I expect DH to care for me while I am sick when we have a 5-year old? Should I expect him to cover the daily household chores that I usually do?

Where should my family get together for 4 or 5 days this summer? Coming from Boston, DC, and Pittsburgh and willing to drive or fly. 6 kids ages 2-10, several of which are neurospicy. Need to stay within the US. Outdoorsy things are good for the kids and a day on a beach is okay, but the grandparents don’t want only beach time. Also game for an interesting city, but need to have the ability to airbnb or otherwise rent a house since hotels don’t work well for some of the kids.

What are everyone’s feelings around makeup and nails for elementary girls? My daughter is 8 and loves all the things. I’m not a girly girl and wear minimal makeup and only do pedicures occasionally. Our neighbor got a dip manicure for her 9th bday and frequently has press on nails. Is this something they should be allowed to wear for school at 9? My gut says is 9 is too young but maybe I’m the crazy one. I don’t love the chemicals and the idea that kids start wearing makeup and do nails in elementary school ugh. My gut is makeup for special occasions starting at 13, and as much as you want after 16. Nails I don’t know also late middle school/high school. What age do you allow for dip or gel with extensions and makeup?
