The chill of late fall is starting to affect my skin, so I’m looking to add a restorative serum like this one to my skincare routine.
KraveBeauty’s Great Barrier Relief is designed with sensitive skin in mind. This serum is formulated with soothing amanu oil, niacinamide for even tone, and ceramides to strengthen your skin barrier. Use it morning and night on its own or with your favorite moisturizer if your skin needs some extra TLC.
Great Barrier Relief is $28 for 45 mL.

My 7 year old wore stage makeup on her face and neck for Halloween on Friday and woke up on Sunday morning saying the outside of her ear hurt. It was super red and got redder through the day. It looked better this morning and we sent her to school but I got a call from the school nurse about it 20 minutes into the school day and she said my daughter was complaining about itching and pain and the whole area was super red. The nurse asked if it was ok to give her benadryl and hopefully that worked, because I haven’t heard anything more from school. I’m guessing this might be an allergic reaction to the makeup, despite the delay and the fact that it’s only on one side? She also got Covid and flu shots yesterday but the complaints about her ear started before that. The school nurse checked the internal part of her ear and said it’s fine, no ear infection. Is there anything topical I can get over the counter that might help?
We toured a private school yesterday. I was hoping we didn’t think it was a fit, for now at least, but we absolutely loved it for our kids. We can swing it if our kids get in, which I know is a huge privilege, but I feel all kinds of feelings for potentially leaving public school, which has been overall solid for our older kid, but is definitely under some major attack and keeps getting chipped away at in our state.
PSA to buy winter gear for your kids now. Winter coat, hats, snow pants, snow boots, gloves, etc. Or check if last year’s stuff still fit. Even though we are in the Midwest and get plenty of snow, stores here always sell out once the first snowflake falls.
My kid woke up this morning with a random and strong desire to make and decorate cookies, so I’m baking some over my lunch break (thank goodness for a WFH day every once in a while) and we’ll decorate tonight!
Has anyone here tried Willow or one of the other cosmetic focused GLP-1 brands? I have just about given up on losing 10-15 lbs through diet and exercise. I’m already pretty disciplined and healthy and my weight just won’t budge. But I’m concerned about side effects and ingredient quality/ regulation.
My fourth grader son has always been the kind of kid with 1-2 close friends versus a big group. For various reasons he needs a break from current BFF (no big issues just think it would be good to branch out / they’re starting to not get along great due to being overly competitive with each other). I’ve casually suggested a few kids he likes and could invite to do things but he never wants to / makes up excuses why he can’t. I don’t want to be helicopter mom so do I just leave it at that and let him run his own social life? or do I just start planning things? any other ideas/tips?
Any recommendations for a toddler shampoo/conditioner and detangler spray? She has very fine, straight hair which often gets static electricity, which is the opposite of my very curly hair. I think the product we are using right now is too heavy for her hair.
Is there such a program where I can send my kid where he’s not doing structured sport or activity, but is really just doing free play, some of which ends up being a sport? As he grows up, I see my older kid needing to be active and moving around, but putting him in a bunch of structured sports and activities is not the way to go for him. What he really needs is the 1980s/90s free play where he goes and spends time with friends, but the problem now is that most of his friends are not around and are doing structured sports! That definitely seems to be a modern problem.
It’s especially hard on the weekends. Yes, he can do free play around the house, or with his brother, but I think he really needs to socialization of other active, sporty kids (who are doing sports!) Short of moving, anything I can do here?
My 10yo reads almost exclusively graphic and illustrated novels. He’s a very strong reader (tests at high school level or above) and reads hours a day. I’d assumed this was an attention or “laziness” issue (his brother is ADHD/gifted and I’m virtually certain this kid is also ND).
But last night he casually mentioned that he has trouble keeping his place in text-heavy novels. He reads a few lines or words and loses track of where he is. The pictures and white space of illustrated books help him track better (and he reads those words VERY quickly.)
He just had a comprehensive eye exam last month with a pediatric ophthalmologist and was found to be slightly nearsighted but no other areas of concern. Anyone have experience with this?
(And a little bit shame on me for assuming my kid is lazy when really he was trying and getting frustrated!)
So many meltdowns this weekend with my 3 year old, either about or caused by candy. And we don’t even let him have more than 1-2 pieces per day. Anyone else feel relief to be back in the office today?
I attended a panel at a conference recently and identified a job I would like to have. I know someone in that department through a co-worker and I know there will be a retirement in the near future that would create a vacancy. The panel speaker was funny and warm and I would like to contact her to ask more about the role, the department, etc., and honestly, to have a connection who could walk my resume down to HR or at least get it out of the slush pile. I haven’t asked for an informational interview in 10 years! Is it still a thing mid-career? How do I go about contacting the speaker?
My one year old has such bad nose congestion that isn’t. Going. Away. He’s had antibiotics for an ear infection, we do steam showers, electric bulb syringe, you name it. It affects his sleep every night and is driving us insane too. What else can we try?
