I recently tried a friend’s hair drying/styling system and loved the results!
Shark Beauty’s FlexStyle curling and styling system works for all hair types. Rough dry your hair and use the included attachments to straighten or curl. The ion drying technology controls frizz and enhances shine without frying your hair. While it costs more than I’ve ever spent on any hair tool, my hair has never looked better.
This all-in-one drying and styling system is $349 at Sephora.

Help me with a storage situation: I recently (gladly!) got my mom’s wedding china. I really want to use it occasionally, outside of the usual holidays. My kitchen cabinets are full of daily tableware, pots and pans, bakeware, and seasonal tableware. I probably could pare some of the vases and seasonal little kid tableware that we’ve outgrown to make room, but not enough. Our dining room has maybe room for a shallow china cupboard or sideboard (but DH and I are so bad at decorating the thought of picking out furniture makes me anxious.) What do I do? Where do y’all store the fancy plates or seasonal table stuff?
How to make a baby not afraid of Halloween decorations? This will be our first year doing trunk or treat (at daycare and with friends). LO is 14 months. We want to do a dragon and castle theme and have already gotten costumes and some decorations. LO sort of likes his costume and he likes mine.
DH got an inflatable dragon costume for himself and a huge inflatable dragon for the truck. We anticipated that LO might be afraid of them, so we showed him everything – took it out of the box, watched daddy getting into the costume, and then inflated it. LO is terrified of both the costume and the big dragon. I’ve never seen him so scared, he was shaking in my arms before he started screaming. DH insists that we’re using them this year and LO will get used to them. I’m less certain; my vote is to scrap the idea and save it for another year. Any tips for helping LO to see that they’re just decorations and nothing to be afraid of?
Two socks-related questions, please and thank you!
1) Where do you buy cute and interesting children’s socks? I am looking for animals and prints and colors (but probably not actual commercial characters). I have a three-year old girl.
2) Where do you buy socks for yourself? I need socks for running and fun socks for things like indoor playgrounds.
Okay my 11 year old is maybe finally tip toeing into puberty. She is also the least modest kid ever. We’ve been getting on her about it for literally years. At this point she gets fined when she comes downstairs in her underwear. Then we told her we were fining her if she leaves the room unclothed. Last night she couldn’t sleep and came into my room super upset at 11:30 – in just her undies. She doesn’t like to wear pajamas. I have bought her the trendy pjs. She owns a cute robe. I am trying so hard here. It’s maybe (?) okay right now but in six months I suspect it won’t be and she is totally oblivious.
Besides continuing to deduct her allowance for every violation, any other suggestions for getting your kid to actually put on clothes??? It’s making us all uncomfortable. It usually happens when she is upset and it’s a hard time to reason with her which doesn’t help. But this is something where I don’t want her to mess up once and learn from it. I don’t want it to happen at all! I thought this would come with age but she’s in sixth grade.
Can we talk about the insane Nikole Hannah-Jones article? https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/magazine/ny-public-schools-black-students-segregation.html?unlocked_article_code=1.C1E.yfly.Z3xOLQhTGDya&smid=nytcore-ios-share
You had all the resources and not only chose terrible schools but didn’t get your daughter any extra help or tutoring until high school when she was years behind? Literally a failure as parents I cannot imagine. Like fine send her to a bad school but then you must actually be involved in her learning? Not just whining at the principal like hire a tutor and teach her?
Help me think thru something. I have a child who is very good at math and struggles with writing/spelling, etc. I think some of this is a by product of Covid closures as they were learning this all when school was partially closed for a year and we didn’t do a good job of supplementing because we were trying to work intense jobs remotely. Child has now started middle school. It is clear that they need help with some of this stuff to not fall further behind. Up until this point though, child has been doing a once a week class at “math school” and is doings just aces in math right now. But he really doesn’t want to do it anymore. Like adamant that this is “torture” etc.
Where we live high school admission depends on math ability for some of the best schools because you have test in. So it’s important to be able to do algebra etc.
My husband foolishly presented this as “child’s decision’ when we talked about it with child over the summer thinking child could be cajoled or bribed into continuing so now child thinks that if we make him go, it’s a betrayal. But I really think he should continue because it’s something they are good at, it will help with HS, etc.
What would you do? Just let them drop it? Force them to go? We will be getting a tutor to help with spelling/writing/etc. either way. Husband thinks we should just say fine but try harder in other subjects and make sure you get As but so far that hasn’t been successful — kiddo half a**es HW and just doesn’t self motivate that way.
You ever spend the weekend with family or close friends at their house and come away grateful for your own home and routine? I don’t mean in terms of judging things like different parenting style but more like feeling tense the whole time you’re there because your hosts’ marriage is in worse shape than you realized and they’re constantly sniping at each other. It was nice to see them and also an extreme relief to leave. Said host loves family to stay with them in the house but I don’t think she realizes just how much their problems are on full display now – and I now get why another family member started making uncharacteristic comments about maybe finding a “fun hotel” next time. Sigh.
