I know this is too late in the day so just putting it out into the universe: I am having a bad day! Bad week! Bad month! Never ending illness, taking on the brunt of the family stuff and kid stuff while working full time, no great social outlets. I am seriously contemplating leaving the workforce – but the engagement with my colleagues and fulfillment I get from producing good work is also good for my mental health.
Related to GCA’s post below -call your representatives NOW to tell them to vote No on the bill to fund DHS and ICE! The bill is headed to the House floor
so yesterday I said, ICE isn’t targeting kids here, but in the past day:
– Parents on patrol at a northside school were approached by an ICE agent posing as an organizer and asking for details of their safety patrols.
– ICE rammed into a car with two teenagers in it and abducted them.
– And they took a five-year-old. To use. As bait.
I am about to lose my sh*t.
This winter, I’ve noticed this weird-to-me tendency for people to ask what I had when I say I had a cold. Other than during the pandemic, I’ve never tested myself. I just drink some tea and feel cruddy for a few days. But when I tell friends, uhh idk a cold?, they seem shocked that I don’t know what I had. I feel like I missed a class somewhere. Is this part of mom culture? (I’m a new mom). Am I supposed to test myself? How?
Just toured a very well-regarded preschool in our area and then discovered it’s closed for 53.5 days each year – also known as dramatically more time off than I earn at my job. It’s also still $1900 before extra fees for 8-5 care. Guess we’re sticking with daycare…sigh. The director said herself “heads up that this schedule can be challenging if both parents work.” No kidding.
I need advice on how to make the mornings easier with my 2-year old. She has tantrums in the evening too, but its nothing like the mornings.
Here is our current routine — I get up and get ready for the day. I then go to collect her from her crib (she is up by then) and we do a diaper change and clothing change. That part normally goes ok, although she does sometimes fight about what to wear. We then go downstairs, and she normally breaks down crying at this point, sometimes saying she wants to eat and some times not saying anything at all. I get her breakfast, which normally involves at least one crying fit about what she wants. She sometimes does ok with eating it, but other times will cry instead of eating. Then she cries again when we have to put on shoes and coat to leave for daycare. She normally does ok during the car ride and walking into school, but starts crying again when we get to her classroom. Given all the tantrums, we are often running behind so I have to keep trying to encourage her to move faster so I can get to work.
Writing this all out, maybe part of the answer is that I just need to get up earlier so we can start earlier. I really don’t want to, because I’m pregnant and exhausted but probably just have to suck it up. But any other ideas would be very helpful.
Thanks for all the advice on Costa Rica with a 4 year old last week. Based on your suggestions and some other research, I think we’ll save this trip until she’s older. I’d like to do some of the hiking and rafting and it looks like she’s a little too young to really enjoy it.
With that in mind, I did some additional research and would like to get thoughts on St. Lucia, particularly the Coconut Bay resort. Would be in December for my 40th, with a husband and an almost 4 year old daughter. The resort looks a bit dated but relaxing and has a kids club which I want, and there’s outdoorsy stuff to do off resort like hiking for me. It looks like there’s a direct flight that’s only 4 hours, so slightly more convenient for us as well.
Help please! Due to a last minute change of plans my daughter is going to a birthday party on Saturday morning. Amazon gifts won’t arrive in time so my go-to of a monogrammed bag filled with some fun markers and lip gloss and other things won’t work.
What would you get for a six year old girl at Target? I’m completely walloped between work and home and illness and Target pickup is the best I can do. I know this is such a silly question but my brain is fried. Thanks for any help!
PSA for any other families dealing with RSV this week: the Freeflex 4 in 1 test for home testing that you can get at CVS gave us a false positive for Covid and a false negative for RSV multiple times. Waste of money.
