I have a 6-year-old girl who is on the bigger side – 95%ile height and weight, with a long torso. Very solidly size 10. Most typical clothes are Cat and Jack size L/10-12. We’re having trouble finding shirts and pants that provide enough coverage on the back side. She is very conscious about having her back show and obviously does not want a plumber’s crack situation.

We tend to need to do leggings because the bottoms are tight enough that they don’t need hemming. Looser pants don’t work because they tend to be too long and I just don’t have the capacity to fix the hem or take them to be tailored.

I need a new set of pants and shirts for her. Any recs on pants with a short inseam for size 10-12 girls, but also provide backside coverage? Maybe a shirt with a high-low cut so it covers her back? (but we also need tummy coverage… sigh).

Now that my toddler is getting bigger and stronger, I’m feeling so much more motivated to hit the gym for “functional fitness” – he was having an absolute blast being dragged around in a box and I was the one who had to stop for a breather after just a few passes. Sigh. I totally understand and believe in the importance of fitness, I do not feel mom guilt for taking time for fitness, and yet I’m still not where I want to be because of life. Something to work for this year!

For those of you who kept their baby in their bedroom for an extended period, what did the baby sleep in once the baby started rolling over?

We are planning to keep the baby in our room till at least 6 months. We don’t have room for the crib in our bedroom. The only thing I can think of is moving the pack n play to our bedroom, but I really like having it as a place to put the baby down in the living room.

I’ve seen a lot of pushback here to the idea that childcare providers are strangers. But also, how do you get to know them? They’re not strangers to my baby, but we talked once when I toured the place and it’s always too chaotic during pickup to have much of a conversation and neither of us really want to linger. And that’s not even getting into how the other kids there are also strangers that he can easily pick up good and bad habits from, once he’s old enough to actually interact with his peers. It seems like such an unknowable black hole, especially for a young child that can’t really communicate beyond hungry, angry, happy.
