We always send out Xmas cards with our family photos, but I want to do something a little different this year. We don’t have any good family photos this year, and it’s probably getting too late to put something together anyway. I could just buy a box of holiday cards and send them out but I would like to do something between that and a photo card if that makes sense.

I feel like trying to work and pump at the same time is giving me neck/back problems. The office has a mother’s room with a big plush reclining armchair – great for sneaking in a nap, terrible for pumping. Also can’t use any sort of desk with that chair. I’ve been putting up with it for the past 6 months, but I’m really starting to hurt. You think it’s worth complaining about? What would I even ask for? I’m not even sure how much longer I’ll be pumping, given that we’re coming up on 1 year, when I can wean without having to switch to formula.

Reposting from the main page a couple of days ago for more ideas, and as another Election Day distraction. Please help me think of a special gift for my daughter’s 18th birthday while she’s far away at college. I already plan to send her cupcakes from her favorite bakery and party supplies so she can celebrate with her friends. I would love to give her a trip or theatre or concert tickets, but with all the college travel another trip isn’t in our budget right now, and I can’t find any shows she’d like with accessible dates and locations.

My 5 year old has what feels like somewhat extreme separation anxiety, but only around our house. She cries, hysterically, if I’m not the one who puts her to bed, or if I leave her with a babysitter. The babysitter can be anyone from a beloved nanny or grandparent to a total stranger – she still cries like she’s dying when I leave. Same thing with my husband putting her to bed if I’m in the house. Cries hysterically the whole time.

We don’t really engage – just a firm hug, kiss, then I leave, but ugh it tears me apart. It’s been happening since she was two, and it never happens at school or ski school or a camp. She’s my youngest, and we spend a lot of time together outside of school — but neither of my older kids were this distraught at this age. I keep waiting for her to grow out of it, but it’s been like two years!

Maybe a fun question…my 8yo asked for “makeup” for Christmas. I’m not going to get her Actual Makeup (she is 8!!) but I’m happy to get her fun makeup-adjacent things. I was thinking hair chalk, maybe one of those DIY lip balm sets…any other ideas?

Why are cotton pajamas required to be skin tight? I realize that it’s for fire safety reason, but how would slightly looser pajamas cause a child to catch on fire? I’m sure there must be a good reason but it escapes me.

Does anyone have experience with the Garanimals brand? What is the quality like? I only recently learned of them, cute and very reasonably priced for toddlers who need a new wardrobe ever season… but wondering how well they hold up.

We have a kid with severe eczema who can’t wear polyester. Both sets of grandparents are aware of this (and have seen the bloody scratch marks / heard about the skin infections). Both keep sending us polyester holiday pajamas. It’s an in one ear out the other situation. We obviously aren’t putting them on kid, but I hate the waste and the “grandma got you something! Oh, never mind….” disappointments.

there used to be someone who posted regularly on this site under the name So Anon who lived in either NH, ME or VT and was divorced with a son and a daughter and an ex who was a teacher or school administrator and had some issues. i hope that you are doing well.

as i’m sure i’m not the only one who could us a distraction. anyone have some cute kid stories to share? can be recent or old.
