i feel like being a parent is too much of my identity. this is my kids first week back at school and while at work i spend half the time thinking about my kids. i was thinking ahead to once they are grown and worried they will be nothing to me. granted, they are only 7 so i still have time, but i feel like i have nothing to talk about other than kids and work

Question re: age and dressing appropriately for work. There’s a woman in my office who I think of as a chic older woman. My workplace is casual and she always dresses very conservatively (not dressy but think, tailored shirt, coordinated jewelry, woven pants, or knee length casual dress with coordinating shoes). Hair always “done.” I assumed she was older than me — turns out we’re the same age :/ I don’t dress sloppily by any means but it triggered me to wonder whether I’m dressing appropriately for my age. I lean a bit fashion forward, is there a point at which you’re too old for that and have to go full Talbots?

I got the j crew Kate pants after realizing they are exactly the shape and pant I’m looking for. I like them. They look good. But I have large hips compared to the rest of me, and the waist gaps significantly when the pants are the correct size. However, there are no belt loops, which is how I typically take care of this issue. My questions are: is tailoring going to fix this sufficiently for me, and if not, can anyone recommend similar pants (length, quality, rise, cut) that have belt loops? The J crew factory pants are not high quality enough for me and I’m replacing them with these. Thanks!

At what age would you let your kids into bed with you? Is it safe to bedshare with a 2 year old?

My almost 2 year old woke up in the middle of the night. I sat with her in the rocking chair in her room for about an hour and tried putting her back in her crib three times before I finally succeeded. I really wanted to just lay down in bed with her because I was exhausted. But all the safe sleep info from her babyhood keep running through my head, and I couldn’t find any info with a google search.

Any tips for when one child is really thriving and one child is not? My youngest is 3, and going through it. Part of that can be attributed to the age, but part of it has to do with external factors that we can’t change at a moment’s notice. Things like: daycare setting and teachers not being a great fit anymore, summer extracurricular activities haven’t been a great fit whereas they are great for the older sibling, and weekend commitments and extended family activities don’t feel as fun for my youngest as they do for all of the older children in our lives. I’m most concerned about the daycare setting. They will change classrooms in September, but I am not sure that the new classroom and new teachers will be a good fit either!

Any recommendations on where to try out strollers and car seats in stores in person? I’d love to be able to test weight, ease of use, etc before making such a big purchase before baby comes early next year. Also looking to get a glider for the nursery.

I’ve seen a few at Target and need to check out PB Kids, but can’t find anywhere else (something like a Buy Buy Baby equivalent). I’m in the DC area. We’re driving to central MA next month, so if there happens to be anywhere on the 95 corridor where we can detour, I’m fine with that too.

I bought this and really liked the cleaners, but I’ve had to replace each of the bottles twice, and I give up. They even replaced the bottles the first time, but it’s just too much of a pain to have the bottles constantly breaking. Great idea; poor execution.

Any recommendations for infant/toddler sleep books? My 10-month-old sleeps fairly well in his crib at night, but we’d like to resolve the early morning wake-ups and the occasional cry-outs for the pacifier if we can. Naps could use a lot of work too – really struggling to go from 3 to 2 naps. I tried Precious Little Sleep, but found the writing style and corny jokes too distracting to continue.

I need to babyproof the house soon. I have one challenge I cannot figure out: In our entryway, we have a sideboard-type piece of furniture, and upon it rests a huge, family heirloom mirror that rests against the floor-to-ceiling stone wall behind the furniture and mirror. It is, I realize, a total deathtrap. I’d love to keep the mirror in place for its sentimental value to our family, but is there any way to childproof this configuration without drilling into the stone? We want to avoid that at all costs. Any recommendations would be so helpful!
