Early fall is around the corner and with that comes the season’s temperamental weather — it’s chilly during your morning commute, but sweltering when you run out to lunch.
This soft cotton-silk crew-neck sweater is perfect for transitional weather — the classic cut works for the office, weekends, and everything in between. It also comes in a rainbow of colors so you can pick a favorite or two.
This Banana Republic sweater is $100 and comes in sizes XXS-XXL. “Citrus season yellow” is even on sale for $84.99 (lucky sizes only).

My two year old does this thing where she tries to grab the side of my face and/or pull my hair. When it happens, I grab her hands and try to redirect her. is there anything else I should be doing? It really hurts and would love to get her to stop. And it doesn’t help that she always laughs like a madman when this happens, which I am sure is normal but always worries me.
Reporting back from a weekend at Dutch Wonderland with our five year old, it was really fun! I think he was the perfect age for it. Juuust tall enough for the biggest coaster and fine for everything else. Finally able to wait in lines, though the lines were not bad at all. I found it much less overwhelming than Disney, though it didn’t have the *magic* (I’m OK with that for the small fraction of the cost!).
My kids (4.5, 7.5) are both being mean/rude to me and each other.
There’s a lot going on – new school year (we are ~2 weeks in), routine change for another kid due to being out for surgery, etc. I’m trying really hard to model behavior (because I think my past behavior is to blame for some of this), be kind, etc. Any other tips?
Where is everyone doing back to school shopping? This year I’m struggling to find looks for my 5 year old girl, who leans colorful but not babyish in her aesthetic. Loves dresses. I feel like we’re aging out of the Stitchy Fish brand and looking for a replacement. Any ideas? Located in Westchester and happy to order online
For those of you who have gone through IVF, did you tell any friends or family? And at what point? I recently got married and learned we’re both carriers for a certain condition. My doctor recommended IVF with PGT. I understand that the process moves slowly and it might be 6-8 months before we can attempt a transfer.
I want to tell our parents so they don’t hint at pregnancy plans or try to guess whether I’m pregnant- this is all a big shock so any comments will be painful. But at the same time I don’t want them pushing us for updates on a process that takes so long. I’m fine telling my girlfriends but I feel weird with my husband’s buddies knowing the details (mostly due to their competitive wives). Am I overthinking this? Do people tend to be supportive or does it add to the pressure?
What’s on your to do list that you’ve been putting off?
I’m doing all the adulting this week… I got our remortgage agreed with a broker (you remortgage every 2-5 years in the UK) and got the broker to do a life insurance review. Next up – I’m going to bribe myself to take my passport photo and US renewal application done.
And email an absence note for school – we’re skipping school tomorrow to join the cousins for the Lightning Thief musical so it’s going under a vague “family obligation” category.
I know virtually nothing about life insurance and would like to learn, but the resources I’m finding seem like marketing. Anyone have a favorite guide or explainer? I’m at the “I know we need it and I know whole life is not a good value” level of knowledge, but I’m not sure how much we need or where we should be getting it. I also don’t know what sort of medical work up is necessary for these.
If relevant, we have two kids and I’m currently a SAHM but plan to return to work after the kids are older.
Kiddo coaching advice, please! My just-turned-eight-year-old DD is struggling with her transition to third grade. On top of normal first-two-weeks-of-school exhaustion, she now has nightly homework. It is typically extra math practice or a fun writing worksheet that takes 5-7 minutes just to build the homework habit. In an ideal world, homework sheets would be placed in her folder at school, taken out when she does the homework at home, and put back in the folder which is then placed immediately back in her backpack. In our current reality, papers are shoved in her backpack at school, strewn across the kitchen counter at home, and, on a good morning, scrambled for through tears before leaving for school. We have talked through the ideal situation, but talk isn’t translating to action just yet. How do I balance coaching her through this with the exhaustion she should get through in the next week or so?
FWIW, she is typically not neat and organized. DS is one of the oldest in his grade, is a serious people-pleaser, and almost neurotically neat and organized, so we didn’t need to do much coaching for him when he started third. Thanks in advance for any ideas!
We’re considering hiring an after school babysitter that would walk our 1st grader home from school and hang out with him for 2 hrs until we get home from work. What sort of questions should I ask in the phone screens? I’ve hired a nanny for in infant before but not for this situation. Thanks!
Testing…
There was a recent post about stainless steel straw cups but search isn’t working for me – anyone recall what the recs were? I want easy to use and clean with a stopper to prevent the straw coming out. Tia!
