Just need a little reassurance. My toddler started daycare this week after being home with a nanny. She was super fun and kept him busy with classes, activities and outdoor time. I heard a lot of laughing on days I was wfh. He is not loving daycare (which is expected during the transition) but I realized his new routine might be a downgrade from before. He’s stuck in the same room most of the day and has to follow a lot of rules now. I still think it’s the right decision for us but his sadness every morning is starting to get to me and I feel bad for him. He’ll be ok, right?

Any advice? Now that we are done having kids, I’m starting the process of getting a hysterectomy and bladder sling for my rather severe prolapse that began with my first (rather traumatic) birth. I’ve done some pelvic floor PT and saw some improvement but by no means did it fix it. And, the PT told me she wasn’t sure I’d ever get to a point she’d recommend running again, at least without surgery. I meet with the urologist soon. She and my OB would likely do a joint surgery. FWIW I’m 35. Any questions you’d ask? Any one have this done? What should I consider?

Hi mom,

I have a soon to be 7 year old that I’d love to keep pushing towards independence. She makes her bed every morning and now does her own laundry after a standoff where she wanted to only wear a handful of items from her clothes.

Now that school is back I’d like her to start assisting with managing her calendar. Her school events, sports events etc.

Any thoughts on how to start this? Her reading is so so (just stated 1st grade) and she writes quite slowly.

Not sure what I’m looking for other than how to to navigate training her up on this.

We do have a skylight calendar in the kitchen she can (slowly) read.

Inspired by the booster question above…when did you make the move from forward-facing carseat to the high back booster?

My daughter is 4.5, tall (I don’t have the exact measurements right now) and clocks in at 39 lbs. We have the Graco SlimFit 3-in-1 and the forward-facing harness range is 22-65 lb and up to 49″. High back booster is 40-100 lb, 43-57″, at least 4 years old.

Not in any rush to move her, just curious. Would the safest be to wait until she maxes out the forward-facing harness range?

Poll of the day: how much storage space do you have for digital photos?

I’m finally biting the bullet and consolidating all my pics into Google Photos. (Shoutout to the BOBW episode on digital decluttering). Mine turned out to be like 9 GB, just from the past 6 months or so, not including what’s on DH’s phone. I know I could do better at filtering them, but it was still more than I expected!

We are traveling to Seattle and Vancouver Island later this summer with two kids, 10 and 7. Any recommendations? We have been to Seattle before with them so have already done Pike Place Market, the Science Center, the airplane museum and an orca-watching cruise (though open to repeats).

Kid headphone recs? My first grader needs some for school. And the ones we use for travel just broke

My 6-week-old daughter has a swollen nipple area. No redness, fever, discharge, etc. I know this can be common directly after birth, but since it’s just appeared now I’m unsure whether to be concerned. Has this happened to anyone else here?

Kat, I am getting loud autoplay ads on Safari. The most recent was “IF JUST ONE PERSON IN YOUR FAMILY HAS TYPE 1 DIABETES…” The ads never seem to play immediately when I open the page, but after I’ve been on it reading for a little while.

Another “what am I forgetting?” question. My husband and I are taking a couples trip next week. We’ve done this before, but this time is different because my parents are staying in our house and taking care of our dog as well as taking our kid to school and activities (previously kiddo stayed at their house, only went to daycare and the dog went to a dog sitter so there was a lot less to keep track of). I’m preparing a document for them with all the info they need: I have info about the kid’s school routines and activities, the pediatrician info, the number of a local mom friend who can help in an emergency, the dog’s info including the name and number of the vet, info about house things like when our trash goes out and our travel itinerary. Anything else you would add? I feel like I’m forgetting something but not sure what.

For those of you with elementary ages kids who travel on planes a lot – what do you typically do about boosters? Rent from the rental car places? Bring along your boosters on the plane? Anyone tried those inflatable ones that pack down? It’s easier than big carseats for sure, but still a pain to have to carry one more thing.

We’re having an outdoor party on Saturday — about 30 adults and 15 kids. We’re renting a bounce house and extra tables/chairs, doing sausages/hot dogs/veggie burgers, chips, and Costco sides/dessert.

My question is…what am I likely forgetting? We are NOT party-hosting people — I think the last time we’ve had a party was our wedding ten years ago. I know many of you are hosting experts — please, advise me!
