Nothing but crickets over here on the moms page…

Ladies, what are your mom-centric resolutions for the new year?

I don’t really have any since I am about to pop with baby #2 in a few weeks. I figure getting through the year with a 2 year old and a newborn is enough! My biggest goal is to try as much as I can to make sure that my older child doesn’t feel pushed aside by the new baby, by including him as much as possible but also making sure we still have one-on-one time together.

Ditto to all of this. And to make sure my husband doesn’t try to make my toddler grow up too fast just because we have a new baby. He keeps making offhand comments like “son #1 needs to get used to not being snuggled in the morning, because we’re not going to do that once new baby gets here.” Um. yes we are. He’s not even 2. He still needs hugs (hell, even if he were 10 he’d still need hugs).

      Good luck to you!

Just one: Get this baby sleeping through the night!!!

Magically get back into shape without reducing time with kiddos, time at work, or time for sleeping.

I suppose I’ll then write a book about it and make millions.

(Seriously, though, we did buy home exercise equipment. It’s a real goal).

I would read that book! Most important for us is to buckle down on finishing potty training my oldest (he’s almost three). I’m starting a new job on Monday that should give me more time to work out in the mornings, so that’s also a goal. I’m ready to commit to healthy lifestyle changes for the whole family.

Here is one of those questions that people love to debate on theBump….

I have a NYE party tonight, and I’m in my ‘two week wait’. Theoretically I could be about 7 days pregnant. Or more likely, about to get my period.

I still haven’t decided what to do tonight. I know the best plan is just to drink moderately, 2-3 drinks total spaced out over the night with non alcoholic drinks in between. Everything I’ve read says that amount of alcohol at this stage wouldn’t be a problem (supposedly excessive drinking can interfere with implantation, but not sure if that’s one big night of debauchery or constant alcoholism). Still, it’s frustrating. Not drinking at all would raise questions among our friends. And I want to have a good time!

I was firmly in the “drink till it’s pink” and test as early as you can camp. There was an evening of debauchery during our ttc time, and wow, that hangover was brutal. A week or so later, a positive test revealed why. So just a word of caution for your own well-being.

        +1
A friend was visiting for the weekend, and we had all kinds of fun planned. We went out Friday night, and I had 3-4 drinks over the course of the night. The next day I realized I was late and thought I better test before we went out Saturday. Lo and behold I got a faint pink line. Saturday night and Sunday brunch I drank mocktails and tried to hide it. My friend told me later he totally knew something was up.

This was my exact situation last NYE. I decided to have two drinks and 4 days later I had a positive pregnancy test! Now I have a healthy almost four month old.

Enjoy your night, whether that means drinking or not drinking!

I think drink moderately makes sense.

A friend was in a similar situation and even took a test before heading out (negative), got completely wasted, and then turned out to be pg. She’s normally extremely cautious about stuff like that, so she freaked out. Her OB assured her that it was fine (and it was) but did mention something that suggested that it could have prevented implantation. At the very least, I agree with mascot that I wouldn’t want a hangover while pg. Ugh.

First pregnancy, everyone complained about “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”. I LOVED that book! The first chapter has a question – “I did cocaine before I knew I was pregnant. Did I hurt the baby?”

The answer was no. (My answer was – I’ve never done cocaine. I’m already a great mom!

As long as you don’t do (much) cocaine, you (and the baby) will be fine.

Ooh, I’m already a great mom too! I like this low bar. :)

Pogo- go have fun! I know I had 3ish drinks over the course of an evening on a couple of occasions before I tested positive in both pregnancies. Jury’s still out on the second one since the baby’s not quite here, but my first son is totally fine.

        ETA: Happy New Year, everyone!

Thanks for the responses guys! I enjoyed a few glasses of champagne over the course of the night and felt fine the next day. Glad to know I’m already on the road to being a great mom since I haven’t done coke.

    Hello Moms!

First post here…because I just had a positive test last night! At most, I am at 4 weeks. We have decided not to tell anyone until about 12 weeks just to be safe (this is my first one). I’m sure I will be happy later, husband is crazy excited, but I’m totally freaked out. It was intentional, and happened within about 5 weeks of going off my birth control – which my OB warned me would happen – but it is still kind of crazy!

    So…hi everyone!

Congratulations! Freaking out is normal. I freaked out when I got the positive pregnancy test even though it was planned. My husband was also extremely excited right away.

Thanks everyone! Good to know it isn’t just me. I swear…I’m already too hot. I’m in trouble being due in September, I just know it…I guess it is good we have a great air conditioner!
