Husband and I are in the early stages of selling our home and searching for a new one. Our realtor is coming over tomorrow to walk through our home and discuss details. Any last minute tips on making our house look presentable before the realtor comes over? We have our cleaning ladies scheduled to come tomorrow morning, and I will try to clean up extra clutter tonight. We have 2 little kids so cleaning up lots of clutter feels like an endless task, haha.

How old was your child when they needed a forward facing stroller?

We’ll be flying with LO for the first time next month (he will be 15 mos) and we have a Doona. For those that aren’t familiar, it’s a collapsible stroller/car seat combo that is backward facing. It’s approved for aircraft. It seems much easier to use the doona than to get a separate car seat and travel stroller, if possible. We don’t have any other flights planned in the immediate future.

He needs to be in a backward facing car seat but I’m not sure if he will tolerate a backward facing stroller. Our normal stroller is forward facing and LO likes to people watch. He hasn’t been in a backward facing stroller since he was like 6 mos and even then he was twisting around to try to look out. He is walking but he’s pretty wobbly; we definitely need a stroller. I guess we could just let him climb all over the stroller and look whichever way he wants (kidding… though I’m sure that’s his preference). Can we make do with the Doona or do we really need to buy a travel car seat and stroller?

My 2 to was hospitalized via a long ambulance ride last night. The good news is he’s doing great now, and I’m absolutely not complaining that he’s healthy!

But now I’m in a city 4 hrs from home with no friends or family here. I have no car seat for a rental or taxi. Any ideas????

How is the Cornell case sitting with everyone?

I’ve never explained this to anyone (including my husband) but as a college freshman I made the decision to wait a week or two before drinking to see the scene. In that time I saw multiple SAs of other girls and made the decision that it was never safe to drink in a college crowd, even with “friends.” I’m now over 40 and still dont drink. I’m sure that’s an over reaction, but have had enough scary moments over the years, even fully sober, that it’s not worth the risk to me. The news cycle is hitting me hard right now, even if I’ve never been assaulted, just near misses.

My kindergartner is aggressive on her play shoes, which is fine because that’s what they’re for, but she tore up and put holes in her target stride rites in a month! Suggestions on some sturdier play shoes? I’m willing to spend up to 70 dollars if they’ll last me 3-6 months!

Man, my kinder kid is going through it. He has a temporary, harmless tic (which we’ve shown the ped and she’s confirmed) and is now doing the fun thing where he holds his #1 for too long and often ends up with wet undies/shorts. OR he has FOMO and hurries too much at the potty when doing #1. Not a full accident but still…gross.

He’s otherwise loving his new school, teacher, and friends. So different than my oldest who would externally drag his feet and cry about going to school when they started kinder…

What are some of your best quality of life purchases? The “never going back” stuff?

For me:
– Lasik
– Grocery delivery
– We just got a robot vacuum and mop and it’s been amazing

I am super frustrated with my tween daughter, who has managed to lose two pairs of shoes in less than a week. Her Crocs, and her Ugg scuffs. We have torn the house apart looking for them, she has asked people she carpools with, etc. I don’t know where else to have her look! I have told her that I will not be replacing them until the time we’d normally replace them anyway (Christmas for Uggs, spring for Crocs). But part of me is like, maybe she has too many choices to begin with and this is “proof” that she doesn’t need all these shoes.

I’m probably coming down on her too hard, but both of my kids have managed to lose expensive items recently, and it absolutely galls me — like do they not value what they have? Because I guarantee you my mom would not have bought me name-brand gear when I was their age.

Am I overreacting?

I just had a miscarriage, and while I was pregnant I started losing hair like crazy. Like I think I’ve lost more than I did after I was postpartum, and it hasn’t let up yet. It’s been almost 2 months of crazy hair loss. I’ve tested ferritin and vitamin d and they were both fine. Has this happened to anyone else? I know this is normal and just takes time after a regular pregnancy, but is this normal after a first trimester miscarriage or should I be pushing my doctor to help me figure it out?

Ugh, not to be “kids today” but “kids today”. I just had to send my week 4 “hey, you’ve not yet darkened my classroom door…” email. Almost a third have either never attended a class, or only attended 1/3 sessions. Sadly we can’t penalize for non-attendance…so I’ll just deal with their panic at the end when they don’t understand the assignments.

And my class this term is so much fun – we’ve been having such great workshops, people are super engaged, I’m getting really nice feedback. It’s a shame that I’ll be judged for not reaching the people who just can’t bother.

Kind of specific request…I’m looking for recommendations for a machine washable, all cotton bedspread (quilt? blanket?) that is soft enough to the touch be used on a bed without top sheets (we are a no top sheet family). My daughter has been complaining that her duvet + cover is too hot. One of my other kids has an all-cotton Pillowfort quilt from Target that works well for this in-between purpose but they don’t seem to make it any more. I’d rather not spend a ton of money.

DH has a work thing in Providence RI coming up, older kid has a week off that week and I’m on mat leave, so we are thinking of going as a family for a few days. It’s in late October, so not beach weather, and we’ve never been. Kids are 4 and 3 months. Any recommendations on what to do and where to stay?
