There’s nothing like a fresh pair of sneakers for back-to-school. Here’s a fun pair from Target’s Cat & Jack line that won’t break the bank.
These lace-up platform sneakers have a cotton-polyurethane upper with a comfortable lining and insole for all-day wear. They’re available in three colors, and each one has a slightly different pattern — my tween especially likes the shimmery rainbow-colored ones.
These sneakers are on sale for $21 (marked down from $30) and come in whole sizes 13 to 5.

I’m way too lazy to ever consider shoes with laces for little kids. My kids wore the stretch laces or velcro shoes until they were into middle school.
I absolutely hate kids walking around with untied droopy laces. And I absolutely hate having to remind them to tie their shoes constantly.
My daughter (11) has this friend she often wants to have for a sleepover, but she has constant food issues, which I think might just be BS.
First time she was over, we told them we were getting pizza, then as we were literally walking out the door, she goes “Is the pizza gluten-free?” Um, no. So I’m scrounging about and find some leftover chicken to offer, but turns out, she’s also a vegetarian. (Parents never mentioned anything.)
Except I find out later that the vegetarianism doesn’t count for bacon and pepperoni. And another time she was over my daughter had made cookies the day before, and it turned out that actually some gluten is OK. Then another time I made blueberry pancakes (which I’m sure I told them I was making), only to be told as we’re serving that she’s allergic to blueberries. But my daughter has since said she’s seen her eating blueberries.
So, she’s just messing with us, right? Her parents seem kind of kooky and distracted, so I’m thinking this is some attention thing. I’ve never actually spoken to them; we usually let the kids make plans and my husband just texts the mom to confirm, and he doesn’t want to raise it (and we figure they’re old enough to know their rules -other kids that age we know seem to). So, we get her a cauliflower frozen pizza (which seems awkward, since we’re usually cooking something), since my gut is to not make a big deal if she does have some food issues, but this is just annoying.
Thanks for listening to my rant.
Does anyone else have a kid who hates getting new shoes? My 9 yr old is insisting her holey sneakers are just fine. Zero interest in fresh shoes for back to school.
