I used to make my own glitter glue with loose glitter — leave it to Elmer’s come up with something less messy.
This set includes three sparkling colors. Use the glue to make slime or for other arts and crafts. The no-run, no-drip formula is easy for kids to use, while parents will appreciate that it’s completely washable.
Elmer’s Liquid Glitter Glue is under $10 for a three-pack at Amazon.

Man, I hate the main page sometimes. It’s so toxic.
Following on the dinner discussion from yesterday… I am trying to figure out the right balance around food with my rising second-grader. He is tall for his age and a very sturdily built kid (his future in rugby is assured). He gets tons of exercise and loves sports. He also has the appetite of a salmon-season bear. I’m facing questions I never really considered before–if we’re out to dinner and he’s still starving, can he order a second cheeseburger? For anyone with a boy like this–how have you figured out the right way to draw the line?
Does anyone else feel bad that you didn’t have a more laidback, unscheduled summer? My kids had a lot of fun this summer (vacations, visits from extended family and friends, awesome camps) but most of it was pretty structured. I think we made it to the community pool exactly twice. We ended up out of town or hosting guests on a lot of weekends and long camp hours combined with high sleep needs kids made it hard to do anything besides camp on weekdays. I’m not normally such a pessimist but something about summer makes me focus on all the things we didn’t do.
How do you guys handle relatives who are mean to their kids, but not all the way to abusive? My BIL yelled at his 2 year old pretty aggressively for doing normal 2 year old bad behavior stuff at a party last night, and she looked so small and sad when he was done! It absolutely is not my place to interfere in his parenting, but it just broke my heart.
I ended up reading to all the kids a bunch that night and let her sit on my lap, and she gave me a bunch of hugs while quietly saying she wished her mommy was there.
This isn’t a situation where, like, he was yelling at her because she was doing something dangerous, which wouldn’t have been great but would’ve been a little more understandable. She spilled something by not being careful with it.
A few weeks ago, somebody posted about how they feel like they’re just constantly doling out consequences. I’ve got to say – solidarity because I feel like there are some seasons where that’s so much of what I’m doing.
Right now, kid who was doing so so well all school year is now doing just… dumb stuff. And I’m doling out consequences but it feels like I’m just constantly monitoring behavior and it’s exhausting. I swear, there are moments in parenting where I just wish I could open up their brain and figure out what we need to do to stop something.
Can anyone point me to resources that are essentially Helping Far Away Elderly Relative 101? I live across the country from a difficult elderly relative who has evidently gone from being just fine on his own to needing help with ADL like paying bills, keeping track of appointments, etc. and I being the lawyer in the family am apparently supposed to figure all this out. He doesn’t need nursing care at this point and for legitimate reasons, wants to stay in his house (and the rest of us agree aging in place would be best for his health). TIA for anything that can help me get the lay of the land.
I posted a couple of weeks ago about my daughter with extreme homesickness going to camp. I wanted to thank everyone for your empathy and advice! We did end up having to pick her up but the camp was just close enough that with a combination of support from the folks running it and our family making a few late drives out there and back during the week she was able to participate in most activities, minus the sleeping over.
my kids start school again two weeks from Monday and I’m not close to ready. I grew up in the northeast but now live further south and even after all of these years early/mid August is not ‘back to school’ time to me. Need to make sure to keep my thoughts to myself as my kids aren’t ready either
