For those of you with Girl Scout troops of upper elementary girls, how did you make the tr@nsition to having the girls be more independent and eventually lead activities and badgework? So far “girl led” in our troop has mainly involved them voting on which activities and badges they want to do, and then us doing everything else, but they’re rising 3rd and 4th graders now so I feel like they should be taking the reins more? Hard to figure out how to make this happen though, and the national organization doesn’t give you a lot of guidance. We do have a lot of kids with ADHD diagnoses or typical behaviors (said with zero judgment, and including my own kid in that) which may be a complicating factor.
I don’t think the people who name clothing styles know the definitions of English words. In what world is this blazer “slim”? The sleeves are stovepipes.

At least a few times a month I have fairly intense dreams about an unrequited crush (lots of longing on my end, on brand for a 80s/90s kid) from college. It ranges from us just hanging out to gardening.

I just started Laura Vanderkam’s Big Time book and I love that feeling when you know a book is really up your alley. I’ve been struggling lately with feeling like I “don’t have time” paired with the frustration I have with my own screen/doomscrolling addiction. My nearly 9 year old is so stinky all of a sudden. He seems pretty freaked out by deodorant but I think it’s time. Did you just get sensitive adult deodorant or some special kids deodorant? He has pretty sensitive skin.
What age did travel become easier for those of you with young toddlers? We haven’t traveled by plane yet (first trip coming up) but I’m nervous about how our son will do because he fights everything all the time – I can count on one hand the number of diaper changes we’ve done since age 9 months or so that haven’t been screaming, flailing gator death rolls (and that’s with trying EVERYTHING to fix the situation). Traveling can already be so overstimulating and I envision myself becoming a shell of a human by the time we land. He’s 21 months now and the first trip will be in about 6 weeks. The next one will be around 2.5. Any chance either of these will be a non-nightmare?
My parents are talking about moving to our city from their current residence many states away. I have really mixed feelings about it – it could be helpful for kid reasons, but I expect they will also rely heavily upon us for social and eventual health support. I also feel like they were not helpful when I actually really needed help in past years (including when I asked for it), so I have some resentment that they suddenly want to be here now. We are not and have never been that close emotionally, either, though they are perfectly fine people. Any tips on negotiating this conversation and making a move go smoothly if it happens?
