Give me your best tips on how to approach iCloud accounts for my rising 6th grader and any experience on what works and doesn’t. I know everyone’s views on this so no judgment to anyone who feels differently, but my husband and I would like to avoid phones and social media for our 10 y.o. daughter as much as possible but are at a point where that is just becoming more and more difficult as most of her friends either have or are starting to get phones and even if no phones, can text from at least their ipads, if not from their phones.
We also have middle school starting the fall and she is going to a new school, different than many of her current friends so she wants to be able to stay in touch and this seems to be the way they are all doing it. We got a tin can in the hopes that she will be able to use it as an alternative but it hasn’t taken. She now feels legit left out of a lot of social stuff. We are still committed to foregoing a smart phone until she’s at least 14 but I think we will have to give in and allow an iCloud account she can use at home and maybe an apple watch for when she walks to school on her own.
What ground rules should we set besides limits on time? No group chats? Only approved friends? Trying to navigate unchartered waters.
If you were buying yourself school supplies, what would you get?
We go back to school two weeks from tomorrow and the onslaught of emails from school has started. I’m not ready! Although I do really enjoy the first few weeks of the school year when we’re back in the school day routine but extracurriculars and homework haven’t ramped up so we have nice relaxed evenings.

Twin moms, at what age did you split them up? I have fraternal twin boys who will be 3 in the fall. Daycare is asking if we want them together or separate for this upcoming school year. Their teacher says that they socialize well with others, though sometimes they rile each other up and get each other dysregulated. She doesn’t have a strong opinion one way or another if they should be together or separate.
Daycare has a class for kids who are 2.5-3 at the start of the year and another class with kids who are 3-3.5 at the start of the year. They think my twin B would be best suited to be with the slightly older kids and we agree.
At home, they both play equally with each other and their sister. Neither twin dominates the other. They like to be together though they also fight quite a bit.
I had kind of just assumed they’d stay together until kindergarten, at which point I’d want them separated.
I am looking to upgrade the bedroom furniture in my daughter’s room. Where are you getting nice, quality pieces? Honestly, I have been looking at Pottery Barn kids but I see mixed reviews.
Do you buy your toddler’s character shirts? Do you judge parents who let their kids wear them all the time?
My daughter got a few when she was around 2 from friends and family, and that’s all she wanted to wear. It became such a big fight every morning, that I just gave in and got her more Bluey and Sesame Street shirts. Now, she basically wears a character shirt every day … and has a Bluey backpack and water bottle.
We‘re friendly with a handful of families who have a younger child my son‘s age (4) and an older brother who‘s 7 or 8.
What are some things we can have on hand for the older kids when the families come over? We already have a ton of legos but are open to any other kind of games/toys/crafts/outdoor toys
