Wingspan board game box

My kids are into birdwatching, so when I saw this game, I couldn’t click add-to-cart fast enough.

In the game, your goal is to attract the best birds to your wildlife preserves. It includes 170 beautiful bird cards, food tokens, miniature eggs, and more! The game is for 1-5 players (so you can play on your own) and best for older kids (10 and up).

Wingspan is $65 at Target.

How would you handle being underutilized at work? I’ve had a new manager for over a year and my interesting responsibilities/projects have totally fallen off a cliff and those assignments are now going to people more senior than I am. I’m receiving glowing performance reviews so I think is more likely due to having an inexperienced/underqualified manager who is unable to assess what a project would require and who could complete that work. (If me and my team all make widgets, our manager has never made a widget before but took some MBA classes about widgets). I’m doing a lot of the same things I’ve always done, which I used to do alongside special projects, so work felt more engaging and interesting to me. Finding another job may take years as many working in my field are suffering from layoffs and shutdowns. I languish and get depressed when I’m not using my brain. I can’t sit and do crosswords all day as much as I’d love to, since I’m in the office. I’m taking some LinkedInLearning classes.. what else?

Random reminder that Perler beads exist and are fun…we had a big set we used years ago but was in storage. I got it out on Monday and all three kids (9, 7, and 3) have been Perler maniacs all week. I also realized that you can go online and print out Perler patterns for all sorts of stuff — I printed some KPop Demon Hunters one for my obsessed 7yo.

Shopping help — I am a very sweaty betty with ridiculously sensitive skin, and polyester/traditional wicking clothing both feels terrible on my skin and makes me extra stinky.

I feel the most comfortable in cotton clothing, but am currently struggling to find a long sleeve shirt to run in for the fall. All of the “active” wear feels super scratchy to me — anyone aware of a long sleeve shirt that feels soft like cotton, but has a little bit of wicking ability to it?

best birthday gift for a second grade boy? Was thinking a lego set? it’s for a friend’s kid; I have a younger kindergartener so not totally sure what’s cool for 2nd….

Plan my vacation? Help me decide if we should go on a Disney Cruise for our April vacation week in 2026 (3rd week of April). Or propose an alternative idea?

DH, myself, 8 year old and 2.5 year old daughters. Coming from Boston. Thinking a 4 night/5 day out of Port Canaveral (Disney Wish, I think). The age gap in the girls makes vacations a little tricky. Beach vacations aren’t all that relaxing because toddlers gonna toddle. But we want to get on a plane and go somewhere warm.

I wouldn’t call us “cruise people” but we’re also not “too good” for cruises. We’re definitely not Disney fanatics either but appreciate the fun and magic of it for the kids. We did Disney World with our one daughter just shy of her 5th bday and it was so much fun – the corest of core memories before we had the second kiddo. The toddler could neverrr handle that right now (nor would I spend the money until she’s several years older).

We just did Beaches T&C for a week in September when I was between jobs and it was great. I feel like another resort vacation would be a hit but also more of the same. I’m thinking a Disney cruise would have a little something for everyone…?

Thoughts? I know the 2.5 year old can’t go in the pools but I don’t think that’s a huge deal (she won’t be potty trained). Is the 4 night/5 day long enough? I know that last day is basically just departure. We’d be splurging for the concierge level in all likelihood, too. I think we’d arrive a day early – go down Saturday and stay… somewhere. If we left from Ft Lauderdale we’d hit the Marriot Harbor Beach for a night or two ahead of the cruise but IDK if there’s anything comparable if you’re leaving from Port Canaveral.

How long would you expect to wait on photos from a semi-professional photographer? I think she’s under-charging for delivering all the digital copies. But she also seems to be slow…

I’m just venting here. We have local family and needed to call in reinforcements as DH and I both had work travel this week. My MIL has been helping out, along with one of my parents. I got back on Wednesday evening. The good news is everything went mostly smoothly, and I’m so grateful we were able to get the help we needed to go on these work trips.

I have one kid that can be, quite frankly, a lot. Partly because of age (he’s almost 5, and it literally gets better every month), and partly because of personality. Nothing too crazy but think – low frustration tolerance (e.g. he yells when a marker falls or cries/yells/whines when he finds out he’s not getting his desired breakfast, is a mess when overtired…but then gets over things) and loud. Yesterday he told my MIL “you’re not my boss”, which isn’t acceptable AND he was overtired. He response “YES I AM” or “That’s not nice”, etc. She also historically is just not the most empathetic person generally so there’s that.

Anyway I just feel really judged by my MIL about my parenting of this particular kid. I know its more of a me issue, but I just…don’t like feeling this way. She leaves early next week, so it’ll all be behind us soon.

What do you all do with your kids’ legos? My son wants to display literally everything he makes. Is a lego table worth it?

We love this game, but have found it’s really best for teens and older. Our 12 yo plays lots of strategy games and has since she was little, but this one is too slow to keep her interest. It’s more of an adult game, IMO.

The big downside of the Wingspan game is that it has fragile cardboard pieces and no box organizer. If you like the game, I recommend going on Etsy to get upgraded plastic pieces and a box organizer. It’s a really expensive game to not have these things included.

PSA: Now is the time to book a spa appointment in December. Massage, facial, pedicure, sound bath, etc. If not a spa appointment then something else relaxing that you enjoy. We’re entering the holiday sprint and you will be exhausted by mid-December. A couple hours at a spa is not going to erase life’s stressors, but it will be something just for you at a time when you are creating holiday magic for everyone else.

I’m about 4 months postpartum. The past few weeks, I’ve been having these moments where I don’t recognize my baby. It’s like someone has replaced my newborn with some bigger baby I don’t recognize. I have this moment of panic before I realize that no really this is my baby, he’s just bigger. Is this a common thing to experience? Or am I having a mental health issue?
