I had my first child at 37 and she is now 3 years old. Before becoming a mom I travelled, volunteered, enjoyed hobbies, etc. I had a tough childhood and once I made sense of all that in my 20’s I really tried to embrace the freedom and opportunities I had. Now with a 3 year old my life feels like I’m just checking boxes and in survival mode a lot. I love being a mom, my daughter is the best thing that ever happened to me. It’s weird because even when I get a chance to travel or enjoy a hobby I don’t get the same satisfaction out of it. I’m thinking some of the drudgery of parenting will get better as she gets older, but I’ve been telling myself that for 3 years now and maybe it doesn’t? I don’t even know the point of this post, I’m just exhausted after a really tough week and miss some of the magic my life used to have.

My son read a modern choose your own adventure and is obsessed and asked for more. Any recommendations? I suspect the ones from our childhood haven’t held up well.

I asked for read aloud recommendations for my 5-year-old and thank you to whoever recommended The Penderwicks. We’re on book 3 and both enjoying them. My five-year-old naturally identities with 11-year-old Skye not 5-year-old Batty.

The dad is so neglectful though! He’s 100% parentified his older child and drove his youngest around with no seatbelt. It’s not hurting my enjoyment of the book but I keep imagining their conversations with their therapists 20 years later.
