By now, hands-free slip-on shoes are no longer a novelty, but when I was pregnant, my Kiziks were a revelation. I could slip them on and off without having to contort myself into awkward, potentially dangerous positions in the teeny-tiny foyer of our apartment? And they looked like shoes I would wear even if I wasn’t pregnant? Fabulous!
Now, Kizik doesn’t make the only hands-free shoes out there — Skechers has its own line, and I’ve seen Hoka expanding into slip-on territory as well — but for my money, Kizik does have the best variety and cutest styles.
This is especially true for the kids’ lines. They come in a nice variety of styles and sizes, and for bigger kids, the laces aren’t fixed to the shoes, meaning kiddos can still learn how to tie and untie shoes.
But sometimes we don’t have time for that. Sometimes, anything that helps me get my toddler out the door even a little faster feels like a not-insignificant win.
(Do I also secretly hope that one day he and I can have matching styles? Yes, yes I do, but I have yet to search on a day when both our sizes in the same shoe are available. But a girl can dream.)
Kizik kids’ shoes are available at the Kizik website, Zappos, and Amazon. The pictured sneaker is available at Amazon for under $50 in two color combos in Little Kid sizes 1-13.

Thanks for all the comments re the eye surgery yesterday. We are very lucky and have the procedure scheduled for next month, which is sooner than we thought we could get in. Fingers crossed!
When did you actually turn your kids from rear facing to forward facing, in terms of age/height/weight, and what actually sparked the switch?
I don’t know what is going on with my kids, probably summer malaise due to me being easier on schedules but they are taking forever to go to sleep at night AND get out the door in the AM, even after sleeping in. I was trying to keep it loose and relaxed where I could and now I feel like I chose poorly…
Happy Friday! Curious if anyone is experiencing this with their 5-6 year old. For the past few months, our son is taking forever, almost 2 hours, to fall asleep. We have revamped everything (quiet, relaxing things before bath and bed, longer reading time, put to bed later, reduced dessert, etc.) and still not falling asleep until almost 10pm. We have addressed every complaint he has (scared, hot, thirsty). He wakes up perfectly happy when we come in at 7:15 am. Any ideas on something to help him get to sleep earlier or is this just his sleep schedule and we need to adjust and accept? Thanks!
How often do you let your kids get new backpacks? I buy quality items, with the goal of getting as much use out of them as possible. DS, who is a high schooler, just got a new one for the first time since early middle school because he needed something larger. (Props to the Under Armour one for going strong for at least four years, though!) Now DD is begging for a new one. Hers is a LLBean model that is still in great shape after three years and is plenty big for her needs. She’s just tired of the pattern, I think. I was hoping to hold off one more year until she starts middle school and start fresh then, but maybe I’m being too rigid about this. She could use the old backpack for an overnight bag, I suppose.
As a single mom, obviously I’m busy, but I want to start slowly ramping up a creative side hustle. My main goals are keeping my brain in gear and making freinds. I would only monetize to make it a self-sustaining hobby, not expecting true profit. The two options I can’t decide between: teaching a kids extracurricular, or starting a mommy-blog.
Educationally and socially, my kids would benefit from the extracurricular. Teaching a live class stretches my skills more than writing would. And I would meet local parents.
Writing would take more time, but be much more flexible. Over the internet, I’m far more likely to find like-minded people than in my small town.
Wwyd?
Can we get into the nitty gritty about house cleaners? Do you use them? How often do they come? Do you tidy before they come? Do you do any cleaning yourself? Are you happy having them?
