The jersey dress is a staple for me on mornings when I can’t seem to get anything else right. Even when everything is a mess, the jersey dress is there for you — unwrinkled and ready to go.

I love this wrap version from Quince. The cut is beautiful, the length is perfect, and the color selection is fabulous. This coffee-brown color caught my eye, but it also comes in wine, sage, dark olive, and black.

The dress is $59.90 at Quince and comes in sizes XS-XL.

For a plus-size option, try this dress from Universal Standard — it’s $148 and available in two solid colors and one print, with sizes up to 4XL.

I have a somewhat unicorn job where I mostly work from home and these days I have 1-2 hours of actual work per day. Earlier this year I mentioned to my boss that I have time to take on something else, but I haven’t pushed it because in the past I have taken on big projects on top of my regular work which stretched me too thin. I am not a manager so I don’t have any staff who report to me. My low six-figure salary is considered high for our LCOL area, and with DH’s salary we are fairly comfortable. I work in state government so I get good benefits, and I have been working at my department for 10 years. Also, I get along great with my boss. I am glad I have the flexibility to do stuff around the house and to be involved in DS’ preschool activities. He will be going to elementary school for the 2026-2027 school year. The downside is that I am worried that I am not maintaining my skills or learning new ones, and generally not putting myself in a position to advance or get a new job, should I want to or need to in the future.

Talk to me about your toy organization and cleaning strategy. Toy rotation worked amazingly well for us until my oldest was old enough to know there are bins of toys in a closet. She’s also probably old enough to help with tidying before bed more than she is. What are folks doing once kids are 3+?

Would you go to a specialist (maternal fetal medicine) appointment the day you’re scheduled to be induced? It would be my second specialist appt and third doctor’s appointment of the week. MFM is at the hospital where I’m being induced but the appt is many hours before the induction, so I’d have to make two separate trips to the hospital that day (~30 mins each way).

I just… don’t want to. MFM is monitoring me for gestational diabetes. They’ve been pretty horrible to work with and I’m ready to be done with them. Glucose is looking good. Baby is moving. I offered to send them my numbers but they want me to come in for an appointment anyway, despite the induction later that day. I want to spend the day getting ready for the induction, not taking hours out of my day (they’re always at least 45 mins late, appt is also 45 mins) for another long and pointless appointment with an expensive specialist copay. But I’m also hesitant to go against medical advice. My OB will just defer to anything MFM says, so they’re no help. Wwyd?

Next week is our last week of summer break at home (school doesn’t start until August but we’re traveling for two weeks before then). I can’t believe how fast it’s gone by and how little in the way of traditional summer stuff we’ve done. Some of it has been replaced by other very fun stuff – this weekend we’re going to the big city for afternoon tea and a touring production of a Broadway show – but it just feels like we haven’t really had a summer. Although the weather is absolutely disgusting and I’m VERY ready for fall weather.

Does anyone have any recommendations in general or for products when going from 2 to 3 kids? Specifically I’m looking at some of the prime sales and trying to consider how I will do the baby monitors and car seats. I ordered the graco slimfit3 to try to do 3 across in our car but I’m sort of stumped by the monitor situation – everyone will likely need one since the older two kids will be on another floor than us so we can’t hear them without a monitor if they need us/still in crib. For stroller we like our double bob and haven’t used the uppababy for awhile but I suppose we’ll go back to that and get the kickstand add on?

We just got back from camping. For the past few years we’ve gone on our own but this year we went with another family and OMG it was so much easier/better. The ratio was the same (we have three kids and so do they) but having more adults made everything so much more fun and easy, and the kids LOVED having friends to play with. They spent hours playing in the stream by the campsite, making up a “performance” that we all had to watch, and just generally being awesome kids in nature. Anyway, if you are a camping skeptic like me my recommendation is BRING FRIENDS!

Heading to London with my 15 month old soon. We are going from the east coast on a red-eye flight and staying for 7 nights.

Any travel tips or must-haves to bring with us? We have a bassinet for the flights for each direction and are staying in a hotel while we are there.

Also, any must-visits? We are planning a day at Hampton Court and going to the postal museum, the science museum, and the Tate Modern, but otherwise just planning to hit up some playgrounds, go shopping and enjoy some meals.

Does anyone have a rec for a baby gate with a pass-through for a cat (11 lbs)? They need to go at the top and bottom of the stairs and our cat is now a senior and can’t jump. I’m also planning to add an extra gate that doesn’t need to be cat-accessible at the door of the baby’s room (close to the stop of the stairs) for safety. Any recs for ones that screw into the wall? Thanks!
