Spring means wearing my favorite shirtdresses — and while I probably don’t need another one, I’m really tempted by this one from M.M.LaFleur.
Made from Italian fabric, this classic shirtdress has an abstract print, self-tie waist, and functional pockets. It works for both summer vacation and summer in-office days.
The Cira Dress is $399 and available in sizes XS-XXL.

School’s out for the summer! All I wanted for this summer was less driving and I think I’ve accomplished that. We’ll see.
What’s the book on building resiliency with kids that everyone recommends?
Moms without local family in shape for babysitting, how have you taken time “off”? DH and I were just talking about how vacations with the kids are still lots of parenting work, and we’d like just 24 hrs to ourselves. But we have 2 kids under 5 and both sets of grandparents are too feeble for that much childcare. I’m just so, so jealous of friends who can do Grandma Camp. How do you all do it?
I’ve posted previously about having a small dingy and cheap apartment. Well, we got a rent increase notice on Saturday. Looked at apartment listings within the hour, found an apartment in our beloved neighborhood in our price range that almost doubles our floor space that was listed just hours before. Seemed super serendipitous. Looked at it Monday, it’s nice, I want it, got the application… And the application portal locked me out. If I can’t figure this out today, we lose the apartment. AAAHHHHH
After having a relatively stable weight for my entire life, post 40, I have been steadily gaining weight steadily. No medical issues, just age. But I’ve realized I have no idea how to eat in a way that doesn’t make me gain weight without resorting to the weird diet culture fads of the 1990s (which is the last time I was around someone regularly who was trying to lose weight). What are good lunches, if you are looking to maintain or even lose weight? I genuinely do not know. Specifics welcomed!!
We got a daycare assessment for my 2.5 yo, and were told that she is smart, advanced on her language skills and very sociable, but that she doesn’t listen to instructions and we should consider ADHD screening. I’m a little torn about this. I suspect DH has untreated ADHD and it’s possible she has it too. But she seems like a normal 2.5 yo to me? She’s definitely active and easily distracted – and probably not the most compliant with instructions – and we are working on that. But she does soccer and ballet and will follow the coach’s instructions there (with the occasional reminder). She can draw or play independently for 15 minutes or so. If you’ve been through this, what are the benefits of early ADHD screening? Any cons?
Any recommendations about hybrid crossovers or SUVs? DH had to turn a car seat forward to fit it driver’s side in a four door Ford Maverick. I think I would prefer something with a more spacious backseat, but that’s not a common review factor.
Niche question – one of the CDC milestones for babies is “likes to look at himself in the mirror.” It doesn’t specify whether “likes” means smiling or laughing at the reflection, which my baby doesn’t do – he looks and seems interested but doesn’t smile. Does that count as “liking” it? I’m supposed to fill out the checklist and bring it to the appointment tomorrow. Of course I’ll be asking the doc too.
