It’s almost pool time! My kids have a set of fish like these that lives in our pool bag.
This six-piece set includes fish and a net for catching them. Simply throw them in the pool and see if your kids can catch them before they sink to the bottom. They also make great tub toys.
Sun Squad’s Tropic Reef Scrambler set is $10 at Target.

Per the thread the other day about not doing emotion well, I have to make a video for my high school BFF’s 40th and have no idea what to say. I care about her deeply and we’re still very much in each other’s lives (we were bridesmaids in each others weddings, text regularly, etc) but she lives on a different continent so I haven’t seen her in years and don’t really know her that well currently. And I don’t do sappy well even with people like my husband and parents. Any general ideas? Also how long does this video need to be? not more than 1 minute, right? It’s going to be a part of a big compilation of people from all different stages of her life.
How do you go about finding a pediatrician? I’m pregnant and we’re trying to decide whether to put baby on my insurance or use Tricare. We live far from a base so I don’t think they’ll limit us to base-only resources. I’ve asked DH to look into this but he’s procrastinating. While I have tricare (as secondary), I’ve never gotten access to their system/a login for myself for some administrative reason I don’t have the time or patience to navigate; I’d have to travel to a base to get it sorted.
I have a high deductible plan through my employer. My deductible and out of pocket max would double if I added baby to my health plan. I’d really like to avoid that if possible, at least for the policy year that covers my pregnancy. Advice on navigating this?
I posted before about my 7 year old whose formerly close friend started being really mean to her about a month ago, beginning at the friend’s birthday party. They’ve since mostly ignored each other at school, but they’re on the same sports team and the ex-friend has continued being really mean there, trying to organize other kids to exclude her from things, loudly whispering to other kids that she hopes my kid fails, openly celebrating my kid’s mistakes, etc. The other kid is more naturally athletic overall, but my kid is doing (slightly) better at the current sport and I think that may be the root of the issue. Back when they were friends, I witnessed this girl absolutely lose it on the rare occasions my kid could do something better, (or even comparably!) even in a totally non-competitive setting like shooting hoops at the park. The whole conflict began right after the sports practices began and the meanness seems to intensify after games where my kid performs especially well, so even though it kind of sounds nuts, I really think it’s correlated.
Would you say anything to the coach about the other kid’s behavior? Without going into the whole backstory about why I think it’s happening, of course — that was just for context here. I don’t want my kid to get a tattle tale rep but it’s affecting my kid’s enjoyment of the sport quite a bit. She gets along fine with everyone else on the team (she’s only friends with a couple of them, but no conflicts with anyone else) and there are only three weeks left in the season.
Any tips for moving along the getting-ready process in the morning with a 23-month old? We are used to taking our time in the mornings and not looking at the clock, but my new job is in the office 4 days a week so we have to leave the house at a certain time now.
I keep redirecting when my toddler asks for playdough, wants to go outside to play, etc., but it makes me feel.so bad because we used to pay a lot in the morning and, frankly, I want to play with her, too. Thanks!
What are your kids reading, watching, listening to these days?
Reading – The Artezans as a read aloud, and Amulet as the bedtime graphic novel.
Watching – I asked this question and then realised I’ve got no idea. It’s been awhile since we’ve been home at TV time. We had a phase of Kipo, which I really liked.
Listening – 39 Clues audiobooks (super age inappropriate, don’t judge), and whatever record we have on the turntable.
How are y’all feeling about visiting Texas with a 1 year old (will have had 1 round of MMR vax)? We haven’t taken our baby to see family in Houston yet and I am considering a summer or fall break trip, but I’m concerned about measles.
Any audiobook suggestions for 6.5, 4.5, and 2 year old for car trips? Target audience is really the older two. We just finished all of the Pippi Longstocking books and they were a hit.
If a baby had diarrhea from antibiotics, that’s still a no-go for going in a pool, right?
