Family Friday: Kids’ Square-Toe Cowboy Boots

My oldest was Toy Story’s Jessie for Halloween. I made the costume with a lot of hot glue and double-sided fabric tape, but the one thing I couldn’t make were cowboy boots. Instead of a traditional pair, she opted for a fun version like these lavender ones.
These sparkly boots have a floral design, square toe, and cushioned insole. If your kid is going through their horse phase, they’ll want to wear these boots everywhere and with everything!
These cowboy boots are on sale for $56.69 (down from $62.99) at Zappos. They are available in kids’ sizes 9-13.

I just need to complain to get this out of my system. I solo parented all week, including through some vary rough nights of sleep for my 4 YO. DH is back today, I’m slammed at work today, and we’re hosting a birthday party tomorrow that we haven’t finished buying supplies for. MIL just texted to ask what time she should come over for pizza tonight. Uhh, what? I guess DH just invited her without saying anything? I love her, and pizza is easy, but I was REALLY looking forward to a single hour of decompression time.
How old are your kids, how often do they bathe, and do you bathe them or do they bathe themselves?
I give a $50 bill to each of my teen niblings on their birthdays. But I am wondering if sending it to their AppleCash or Venmo or somewhere other account they have would be better so that they can use it for online purchases.
Whyyyy must public spaces all be overheated? I foolishly packed sweaters and boots for a week in the big city because it was 30 degrees out. I am so sweaty and bedraggled. If it’s sweater weather outdoors, it should be 65-68 indoors, not 75.
Gifts for teenagers – can I give cash?
I figured putting $20 in a card is more convenient than a gift card to somewhere specific, but we recently had a discussion and some adults reacted so strongly against the idea of cash. Are you still giving cash to people as gifts, though? (Genuinely curious, not stirring the pot. I never thought of it as a burden before!)
My son is 3.5 and in a Montessori school/daycare. He is very active and interested in doing what he wants to do. At home I have figured out a way to manage him, but at school the teacher is having trouble with him staying on task and following directions. She implemented a chart this week where every hour he either gets a happy face or sad face based on his behavior. She goes over the chart with me and him at the end of the day if he has mostly happy faces I’m supposed to reward him with something small (she admits this doesn’t follow Montessori teachings).
The first couple of days were good but yesterday was not and she discussed what he did wrong and made him promise he would try harder the next day. He seemed uncomfortable the whole time. I understand she’s trying to make him accountable, but he’s 3.5 and essentially being audited every hour in front of the whole class (other kids were commenting on his chart when I was there one afternoon). So he’s potentially hearing multiple times a day that he’s disappointing them or failing or being bad.
I want to put a stop to the chart but I don’t want to come off as an uncaring parent of a difficult child. I’m happy to find an alternative way to encourage him. My biggest fear is he’ll learn to hate school because of things like this. Am i overreacting to this situation?
After almost ten years of parenting, it finally happened: lice. The only one I know for sure has them is my 9yo daughter. All five of us are going to the lice clinic first thing tomorrow for screening and, if positive, treatment. Any other advice for a first-timer?

Gift ideas for a 5 year old girl? My son is going to his classmate’s birthday party next week & I need to grab a gift when I run errands this weekend. Curious if anyone has seen any gifts be a hit recently that I should keep an eye out for. Thanks!
Re-posting from yesterday afternoon: How much and what kinds of foods are you sending to daycare with your 1 year olds? We’re transitioning away from formula right now. For a full day at school (9 am to 5 pm) we currently send in 1 yogurt pouch, 1 fruit/veg pouch, and a bento box of fruit, meatballs or deli meat, crackers or ravioli, and a veggie for her main meal. What are y’all sending? Thanks!
