I haven’t heard of this brand “Walking Cradles” before, but they’re highly (highly!) rated on Zappos, and these strappy 2.5″ heels are one of their top rated styles. It looks like a comfortable and versatile shoe, and it’s $94 at Zappos. (I’m also a fan of this style and this style.) Happy weekend! Just wanted to update everyone who was nice enough to tell me positive stories about c-sections last week– I had my 38 week checkup, and she’s still breech and my dr. thinks it’s unlikely she’ll turn. So I’m scheduled for a c-section on Thursday, unless she turns before then. To quote Jessie Spano on caffeine pills, “I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so scared!” Mostly excited to finally not be pregnant anymore and to finally meet her.

Yay baby soon! I am a different poster who was talking about breech and being very unhappy a few days ago. I was working really hard on getting to the mindset you describe, and just being happy that it’s almost baby time. So good for you — it’s really not easy.
Skip the rest of this if you just want to focus on c-section prep and don’t want yet another person telling you there’s still hope for a different outcome (I got a lot of that, and by the end it made me want to stab people) but for what it’s worth. My 37+ weeker just flipped, easy as pie, after over a month of being apparently irrevocably stuck. I was so relieved I actually started crying right there. The stats suggest this is quite a rare outcome, though it does happen, which is why it’s frustrating having people tell you to hope for it. I was just aiming for acceptance, myself, and getting my head around the idea of the c-section.
But either way, baby soon for both of us!
CPA Lady says
Oh my gosh! I am so happy for you!
I am at the point where I think I’d be more disappointed if she did turn head down, because I’m so relieved to finally have a day and a plan. So fingers crossed yours stays head down, and fingers crossed mine stay heads up, and yay for both of us!

That’s how I felt at the end (also had a c-section due to breech baby). I had already set my mind on the positives, like the fact that I wouldn’t have to labor for any length of time or deal with painful tearing. The recovery took some time, but the c-section surgery itself was relaxed and almost pleasant (knew I would be meeting my babies).
Good luck!

So glad you get to meet her soon! :)

Has anyone hired a babysitter/nanny from care dot com? DH & I are looking for a part-time nanny of sorts to help him out while he’s job-searching. I posted on care dot com and so far, it seems good, but I’d love to hear “real life” stories. Bonus points for metro-NYC area!
JJ says
Definitely not metro-NYC, but we found our nanny through care dot com that took care of my oldest son for over a year. We paid the monthly charge so we could use the background check service, interviewed 4 people, and chose one of them. All 4 would have worked for us, but the one we chose happened to live in our neighborhood. It worked very well for us.

I don’t have personal experience with care dot com, but two very good friends of mine found their nannies using this service and have rave reviews (Chicago and NE PA burbs). I plan on using the service too when the time comes.
hoola hoopa says
Same. No personal or NYC experience, but friends have had a lot of success. I can’t mention the word ‘nanny’ or ‘babysitter’ without at least one person falling over themselves to recommend the site.

Awesome; thanks ladies.
Just in case anyone’s curious, I posted a job at 10pm last night on care dot com, and have received 25 applications in less than 24 hours! I’m thrilled with how many responses I’ve received. I already called three women, two of whom seem normal and nice. I plan to check references and then invite them to meet my family for an in-person interview. Any advice for Qs to ask potential nannies?
Spirograph says
If she’s worked for other families before, I would ask a lot of questions about that relationship — what were her responsibilities, how did they communicate, what conflicts did they have and how were they resolved, why did she leave the position, how much influence did she have on “parenting decisions.” ie were decisions about introducing new foods, cutting out a nap, potty training, etc more nanny-led or parent-directed? Every family is different, and I’m sure most nannies adapt, but it is good to know what her expectations might be based on previous experience and whether they align with yours. If you would like the nanny to do some light housekeeping – baby’s laundry, for instance – while the baby is napping, ask how she feels about that. If you are paying on the books (and you should), make sure to bring that up. If the nanny is older and has kids and grandkids of her own, ask how she feels about XYZ things that are important to you, and how she feels about following your directions if they’re not in line with what she did.
We interviewed probably 10ish nannies in person, and in retrospect, it should have been a lot more about “chemistry” than their having the right answer to any particular questions. The nanny we ended up hiring was great on paper, but I didn’t ever click with her (I had reservations about that at the outset, but was somehow overruled by my husband). It made things difficult. She took good care of my son, but she drove me crazy. You’re going to see this person a lot. Lots of women can love and take care of a baby, pick one that YOU like and feel like you’re on the same page with.
