Ooh, I’m loving these comfy yet stylish pants from cool girl brand Frame — they look great for the weekend or a casual workday (but know your office). (Nordstrom actually has a ton of pieces from Frame in their big Winter Sale that just started! I’ll try to do a fuller roundup of the big Nordstrom sale that just started, as well as all the Presidents’ Day sales starting now — please stay tuned over at Corporette!) They were $235, but are now marked to $140; lots of sizes are left as of right now. Two other mom-related sales of note: Nordstrom has UPPAbaby on sale, and Amazon’s deal of the day is on LILLEbaby carriers. See our older posts on strollers (we loved the Uppababy G-Luxe) and baby wearing.

When we did our review of the most-loved denim at Nordstrom last year on Corporette, I was interested to see that Wit & Wisdom’s Itty Bitty Bootcut was really popular — and it looks like they’ve done it again with these ankle skimmer jeans. (The length is just a little bit shorter than your ankle, which is kind of nice.) People swear by these jeans for shaping and smoothing and for being very comfortable and easy to care for at the same time, and they have a 4.6/5.0 rating at Nordstrom with 200+ reviews. I like the darker rinse, as well. These are $68 and come in regular, petite, and plus sizesAb-solution Ankle Skimmer Jeans

Which are your favorite snow boots for playing outside with kids, ladies? After my ACL tear and knee surgery a year or two ago, one of my main goals has become “not falling” — but honestly even before that I was really concerned about falling while baby-wearing. (If you are wearing your baby, I was taught that the “right way” to do it is to zip your coat up OVER the baby — then if you’re too warm you know the baby is too and you can unzip, but if they’re on the outside by themselves you have no idea if they’re too hot or cold. But apparently both ways are accepted… you can also buy fleece covers for your baby carrier.) In any event, I didn’t buy proper Sorels until after my surgery, and I wish I’d bought them earlier! They’re sturdy, warm as heck, and I feel like I am totally prepared for snow when I wear them. The ones I have, the Winter Carnival style, are quite heavy (1 pound 5 ounces) — but they’re much lighter than the popular Joan of Arctic (2#), the classic Caribou (2#5oz), and not *that* much heavier than the “light” boots, the Caribou Slim. Plus, the Winter Carnival style comes in a ton of fun colors.  You can find Winter Carnivals as low as $68 at Amazon, Zappos, and occasionally I hear tell of them at Costco as well (though I’m not sure which model you may find, so do note the weight issue); at full price they’re $150. Readers, do you LOVE your snow boots? Which ones do you have? Pictured: Winter Carnival Boots.

Velvet as a kid-friendly fabric: yea or nay? They are machine washable (but advise you to lay them flat to dry).  I like how they’re a step up from stretch corduroy but not overly dressy.  They’re down to $104 from $208, which means I’m getting a pair today. They’ve got great reviews, and are available in sizes 24-34. Hoxton Velvet Ankle Skinny Jeans

Oooh: Note that Nordstrom and Amazon both have other colors in velvet, as well as coated jeans and regular jeans. If you’re looking for plus sized velvet skinny jeans, check out NordstromTarget and Old Navy.

I just saw someone wearing this dress at an alumni event, and it was that rare dress that was slightly fancy but worked well enough for a daytime event — great for a desk to dinner dress or for when you want to be slightly fancy but are still wearing your mom hat so you want to be comfortable and not overly sexy. Nordstrom has it in navy and in this lovely emerald, and it comes in regular and plus sizes for $138–$158. Vince Camuto Velvet Burnout Sheath Dress

Embroidered Lace Sheath DressSomething on your mind? Chat about it here.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like there are far too few occasions to wear fancy dresses as a mom — or at least as one on the older end of things. I’m past the wedding phase of my life (remember when you had to go to three weddings a year for various friends and family?) and don’t go to many formal charity things, and date nights all too often involve hitting up several favorite restaurants or bars in one night, so comfortable walking shoes (and appropriate attire to match) are a must. Still: This lace dress is calling my name — it seems elegant and sophisticated and versatile. Hmmmn … maybe mama needs to find a place to wear it. It’s available in sizes 2–16 for $268–$398, with a zillion color options and tons of good reviews. Embroidered Lace Sheath Dress

Looking for a more affordable option? Amazon has some lucky sizes from this brand on sale for as low as $85. As far as plus sizes, this City Chic dress, this Tahari dress, or this Karen Kane dress all look gorgeous, and as a brand, Brianna as a lot of options.
