I like this shirt as a maternity version of the crisp white button-down. (As I was writing that, it occurred to me that since having a child, I could not describe anything I currently wear as either “crisp” OR white.) I like how the buttons are on the top half as if it were a … Read More about Maternity Monday: Tie-Waist Tunic Shirt
Organizing Thursday: Non-Slip Velvet Scarf Organizer
We are about to enter my favorite season: fall. One of my favorite parts of my favorite season is wearing scarves. Not scarves that are all utility, like you have to wear in the dead of winter, but fashion scarves. (OK, sometimes they can have a dual purpose of actually keeping you warm.) I can … Read More about Organizing Thursday: Non-Slip Velvet Scarf Organizer
Washable Workwear Wednesday: Dillon Classic-Fit Elephant Print Washable Silk Shirt
Banana Republic seems to be making an effort to offer machine-washable clothing, and I am here for it. This is a washable silk shirt, which I don’t see too often. I like the drape of it, and the site describes the shirt as “skims your shape.” My favorite part, however, is that upon first glance, … Read More about Washable Workwear Wednesday: Dillon Classic-Fit Elephant Print Washable Silk Shirt
Makeup & Beauty Monday: Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick
Fenty Beauty (by Rihanna aka Robyn Fenty) is supposed to be inclusive of a wide range of skin tones and colors; their foundation line has 40 shades. I recently saw a makeup tutorial where the artist used a single one of these color sticks to do an entire face of makeup: blush, eyeshadow, and lipstick. Although I probably would not be able to pull off one color on my entire face, I think that concept is really cool. I am also not a makeup expert, so I always appreciate when a product is designed to be blended with your fingertips. I could see myself buying one of the bronze-ish ones to use as an eyeshadow and contour stick, or a pinkish one to use as blush and lip color. They are $25 each at Sephora. Family Friday: Patchwork Twisted Headband
Lately when I’ve been scrolling through Instagram, I’ve noticed that headbands are coming back as weekend-wear. The ones that look most current to me are the ones that have a knot at the top, like this one — and these two on Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere. I don’t know that I could successfully pull … Read More about Family Friday: Patchwork Twisted Headband
Budget Thursday: Metal Chain Hair Tie
This hair tie from Banana Republic is an inexpensive and quick way to put a little more polish on a ponytail or bun. With the recent stretch of humidity (i.e., all of August), it is pointless to do my hair. I’m currently trying to grow it out, and having all that hair on my neck … Read More about Budget Thursday: Metal Chain Hair Tie
Washable Workwear Wednesday: Pointelle Polo
I went to college in the South. Technically it was the “mid-Atlantic” region, but south of the Mason-Dixon line. (If I reveal which state, I’m sure there will be a debate about whether this is really “the South” — anyone want to take a guess?) Needless to say, I wore a lot of pastel polo … Read More about Washable Workwear Wednesday: Pointelle Polo
Accessory Tuesday: Alexandra Bow-Tied Flats
These flats from Anthropologie are fun but professional. I like a pointy-toed flat because it seems more professional, both with skirts and when sticking out from under pants. These are also a professional color in creme, and a have tailored look with the navy and burgundy striped bow. What makes them fun is that the … Read More about Accessory Tuesday: Alexandra Bow-Tied Flats
Washable Workwear Wednesday: Plush-Knit Long-Line Open-Front Sweater
I really like this long sweater from Old Navy. I think it hits a good spot between being on the longer side but still looking tailored enough to be professional. In my opinion, some long cardigans can drift over to bathrobe territory, but this one has enough detailing (ribbed bottom, square pockets) to keep it … Read More about Washable Workwear Wednesday: Plush-Knit Long-Line Open-Front Sweater
Nursing/Postpartum Tuesday: Pull-Down Button-Front Nursing Top
Before I had a child, even if you showed me the most obvious looking nursing top, I would have had no idea of its “hidden” function. I had no idea nursing tops even existed, except for the tanks that had the clips on the straps. Now that I know about this category of clothing, I’m … Read More about Nursing/Postpartum Tuesday: Pull-Down Button-Front Nursing Top
Makeup & Beauty Monday: Hold it Together Blow Dry Clips
My hair is incredibly thick, and wavier in the back than the front. That combination makes it very time consuming to blowdry straight. However, I do find that like most things, the more time I put in, the better the results. If I don’t take the time needed, then it puffs back up and my … Read More about Makeup & Beauty Monday: Hold it Together Blow Dry Clips
Family Friday: Pop N’ Play Portable Playard
My husband and I bought this over the winter when we were trapped in the house with a baby that was crawling and pulling himself up on everything. We started calling it “the cage.” Other friends say it reminds them of an Ultimate Fighting ring. However you want to describe it, I love this thing. … Read More about Family Friday: Pop N’ Play Portable Playard
